Lock the LP tank housing?

Hi all – I'm a newbie here so please have patience. My 2014 19 foot flying cloud Bambi has 2 30 pound liquid propane tanks in the front in a container. However, the container does not seem to lock. Is there a way to lock this container, or should I be worried about that?

Thanks!

I think there is some kind of Federal regulation against that, which is why no LP cover or compartment locks from the factory. If your tanks are the standard steel ones, I'd not bother locking them up. If, however, you have swapped them out for the aluminum version, I would come up with a way to keep them from walking away.

I drilled a hole through the spinner and cross brace and locked it. This keeps my alumimum tanks from being borrowed. Is this illegle?

Few even know what the aluminum box is that contains the LP tanks (unless you have owned an A/S). I've had numerous people who were asking about my Airstream ask what the box is - most think it's just some kind of storage. You could run a cable lock through the tank handles to slow down a thief, but it's really not worth worrying about.

Our dealer sells a (spendy) unit to do just that; but a drill and a padlock would seem to yield the same approximate result.

Hi, I found a company that makes a lock set just for this. It's a nice fit, well made, and looks good too. Note: the top plate locks onto the propane tank cover cross bar and has a cut out for the propane tank cross bar. In my case, I lowered my propane tank cross bar for more stability and to have the ability to remove the tank cover without loosening the tanks. It was a fine line between securing the propane tanks and the tank cover at the same time with the way Airstream designed it. They have different sized wing nuts [as shown in my pictures] Mine takes the smaller 3/8" thread.
