It has been several years since I sold my Brand X trailer that had the single horizontal tank, but I wasn't terribly impressed with its functionality. It was always an issue when refilling - - some vendors insisted that it be removed from the tongue while others insisted that it had to remain on the tongue - - it definitely wasn't designed for easy removal from the tongue (this was on a 1980 Nomad Light-Weight Special 18'). Some vendors refused to refill the tank because they were unfamiliar with horizontal tanks on travel trailers. I could generally travel locally without too much difficulty once I learned which vendors would fill the tank, but long-distance excursions were turned into adventures when the LP ran low and it became necessary to find a vendor willing to refill the horizontal tank while on the road.
Beyond issues with finding a vendor to refill the tank, it didn't provide a back-up when the tank was empty you were out of gas. With the twin tank and automatic switching regulators as used on most Airstream trailers, an empty tank can easily be removed for refilling without disrupting the LP supply to the coach. This can be an important consideration when the coach is utilized when LP vendors may not be open due to holidays, when the distance to the nearest vendor may be great, or when the coach may be utilized in below freezing weather and you want to protect your coach's plumbing from freeze damage.
I would suggest checking with your local LP supplier and get his/her advice on a horizontal LP tank for your coach. If they are a common type of tank in your area it is possible that you might not encounter the refill headaches that I did with the horizontal LP tank on my Nomad.
Good luck with your investigation!
