Unhappy help with my horizontal tanks

Hi,
I need your help. I purchased a 34' limited 1994 airstream trailer last year. What I did not know is that the previous owner had brought the Horizontal propain tanks in for refill and we assume that that particular station only refilled the vertical tanks with the new safety shut off on it because they replaced the Horizontal valves with veritcal ones which of course makes my tanks completely useless. I have called airstream who told me that they do not sell to the public so I called a local dealer that so far could only tell me that each tank would run me $298 plus tax. I would like to know if any one knows where I could purchase replacement valves for my existing tanks? Thanks in advance for your help.

Hi welcome to the forums. I would suggest getting in touch with somebody like National Welders who deal in pressure tanks. Or possibly a fork lift service center. (LP powered forklifts use horizontal tanks) The valves themselves are not terribly expensive compared to the cost of a replacement tank.

I might be wrong, but I think a horizontal tank needs a custom fitted tube to ensure that only vapor is discharged. Fork lift tanks use a liquid pickup tube and would not work.

Since the orientation and tube length will be critical, I think you might need to take it to a major propane service center to be fitted.

Depends on the fork lift. We have had both. I was suggesting it as an option in that they should be familiar with the system(s). I have found as a general rule the LP companies around here could care less to do other than sell you one of their new tanks...full of their propane of course

Or you could drive on over to Strickland Propane in Arlen.

Ask for Hank Hill. Hank is a proud recipient of the Blue Flame of Valor award. This is the highest honor that the Texas Propane Gas Association can bestow on a living member in peacetime.
