Gas valve malfunctioning in oven

My oven has worked flawlessly for the 11 years since PO, but on the first trip out this spring disaster struck. After lighting the pilot light, and turning the thermostat up; no flame on burner then, oh no! Gas fume smell and major explosion of flame out the door. The local AS dealer looked at it (got the same explosion, duh) and pronounced the gas valve defective with no chance for repair/replacement. Too old they say. Can this be true? Our 1970 Sovereign has a large oven on the right side of the galley facing foreward. Don't know what exact Manufacturer/model of the oven. We almost never travel or stay where there are hookups, so replacing with electric is out of the question. Is there a chance that someone stocks replacement parts for this old of an oven?

Unless I am wrong every oven has a serial number somewhere near the door. Using the brand and serial number, you may be able to search on the internet for a replacement of some sort. I have used “sears” parts before because they have tons of parts listed. If you can’t find an exact replacement, you may be able to find a suitable replacement.

One question, are you talking about the temperature control valve or a gas pressure regulator for the oven?

Either way, I can’t imagine that you couldn’t find a replacement by searching on the internet.
