I travel gas on and have stopped at the Chesapeake Bay bridge tunnel to turn them off and have them checked by the bridge patrol......Only to see lots of large motorhomes blow by without stopping as the road signs dictate....When asked about this, the bridge patrol personnel shrugged their shoulders, "We are supposed to stop every RV to verify the gas is turned off, but if they don't stop, we have no enforcement powers...

That's right BigAl and it's right underneath most of us as we travel. Since 1976 I've towed with the gas on.

We travel with gas on. However, when refueling, we turn our marine battery isolator switch to OFF, which removes all 12v power to the trailer. Since all gas appliances are ignited by 12v, that effectively turns OFF everything that uses gas, too. The fuel filler cap on our pickup is on the opposite side from the refrigerator in our Airstream and about 15 feet away, but I think this is a little safer; and I don't want to be the exciting video clip on the 10:00 PM news.

1988 to present....fridge on gas all the time when using the AS. >Towing included<

Except here at home we have never been "plugged in" to allow 120v fridge usage.

Plus DW is a real expert at packing the dang thing, never hear the end of it if the Yo-plat spoiled.

Thanks to all who have replied. We have been traveling with gas on also but was wondering what most others were doing. Thanks so much, Heavyjumbo.

We always travel with the gas so the fridge keeps everything cold. Almost always turn off the propane tanks when we fuel the TV, as per instructions in the AS manual. Usually, but not always, the fridge automatically starts itself again (I would say 95% of the time), so I am in the habit of checking to make sure it does restart.

We took the Texas DOT ferry from the Bolivar Peninsula to Galveston and had to turn off the propane. Once we got to Galveston, I turned the gas back on at a stop light and we headed for Houston in 100 degree weather. Once we stopped (in a couple hours), I went to check on the fridge and it had not automatically restarted but everything was cold and/or frozen, as appropriate. I wouldn't want to go all day without the fridge being on.
