gas line reroute

Would like to run the gas line to the water heater to a better location than where it is. Don't want to pickup some road debris and tear the line off. Wonder why it was put in this location to begin with? Any ideas was thinking about going up thru the floor inside the frame next to the wheel well should be inside the cabinet then to the water heater.

gas line reroute

The LPG lines are routed externally on purpose. A leaking line in an enclosed space such as a belly pan area on the interior is a potential hazard. Routing in these areas should be kept to an absolute minimum.

I would leave it as it is. Kevin is correct they must be located where the heavier than air propane cannot accumulate. If you are worried about the lines, you could put them in PEX for added protection, but realize that Airstreams and Argosy's have run gas lines where they are forever, with very very few issues. I had a cracked flare nut once, and am very glad it leaked outside and on to the ground, not enclosed in the belly pan.

Where I am thinking of running it all the connections would be where they are now and no more line in side than is what is going to the stove. There is more chance it seems to tear it off than have a leak.

Some lines have to be run partially inside, like the stove or wall oven, that is where the appliances are. And there are no extra connections than necessary inside. But the heater is low and the line stays outside for all of its run. If you want to go against conventional wisdom and move it, at least you know why it was done that way in the first place. You did ask for the advice.

I suppose you could drill the frame and run the line through it using a rubber grommet. A hole in the center of the web wouldn't affect the frame strength much, you'd still have the line unenclosed, and it would be out of the way of road hazards. Win.

Plan B was to go through the frame but it will still be close to the tire.

Went with plan B and a new valve the old one was a PIA to open and close. Line is out of the way of any road debris the best that is possible with the WH location.
