Tanks have to be turned off when going through any local tunnels in Virginia - you stop, get inspected (often after waking up the inspector) and then proceed. In Baltimore you cannot go through the tunnel period, so you take the beltway around the city - which is a better route anyway. (Baltimore had an LP truck blow up in the tunnel in the 1950's or early 1960's if memory serves.) Baltimore has signs before you even get to the beltway. Grand Coulee Dam required an inspection, but with the new bridge, that may no longer be true.
A few tunnels have signs but are never enforced. The Allegheny Tunnel on the PA turnpike comes to mind.
It's not a big deal in most places, and if you hang out with other RV'ers you'll find the restrictions quickly.
