Does anyone know what this is?

This is on a 1984 Holiday Rambler Imperial motorhome. It is near the bottom of the coach and looks like something to hold a flag or something. However, when you look in the propane access door there is a large hose connecting it to the top of the horizontal Propane tank. There are no threads on the inside but there is a rubber plug that fits in the end. There is nothing in the paperwork with the MH that refers to it. Any ideas?? I haven't found another one like it on any other motorhome but I'm sure somebody out there has had experience with one. Inquiring minds would like to know.
