Defective Propane Pigtail Lines
A little over a year ago I replaced both pigtail lines to my propane bottles with new pigtails made by Marshall Brass. Shortly after that, one began to leak where the fitting that threads into the regulator is crimped into the hose. I replaced it at my expense since it was on a Saturday and the propane company where I bought the lines was closed. I had lost the receipt anyway. That was on 1/10/11.
Today I checked and found both lines leaking at the same places. (The two photos in landscape format) I bought two new lines from the dealer where I usually fill my bottles, Marshall Brass again, by no means an off brand. I noticed that one had a different, more substantial, style of crimp on the connector, but they only had one with that style. (See the photo in portrait format) It doesn't seem to make much difference, both new lines leak as badly as the old ones.
This leads me to believe that Marshall has had quality control problems lately. Has anyone else experienced problems with pigtails leaking at this location? Especially new ones?

Great news, I just ordered two Marshall hoses from a supplier on Amazon. I even paid a bit more in the expectation they would be better than the ones from Camco.

Shane,
I'd hope that whomever replaced your pigtails performed a post installation leak check. But, since you seem to not have the best of luck sometimes , I'd go ahead and check them. Soapy water is cheap.

Right,.....it was done at the dealer. My concern was I don't what brand the dealer used.....I tested the first ones and found the leak,...so I'll do it before I head to the Mothership.

I would.
I'll be checking my a lot more often. If I ever get two that don't leak. I'm going to check the one that wasn't leaking this afternoon tomorrow, the day after, and all weekend at least.

Update
I picked up a new hose at Crain RV, the closest RV dealership to me. That works out well, since they just became an Airstream dealership in case anyone is interested.
The new hose is fine. Now I have two not leaking.
Also, I got an email from Marshall Brass yesterday. They asked if I could send them the defective hoses (they provided a FedEx number) and said that they would take care of my expenses. They are anxious to examine the problem hoses on their production equipment. I explained that the place where I bought them had taken them back, but still had not returned them to the distributor. I forwarded the request to the dealer.
It's good to know that Marshall is concerned about the problem. Hopefully they will discover what was the issue. They said they would keep me informed. I will update when I learn more.
