defective knob/stem

I just purchased a new 16 ccd a few weeks ago. Yesterday i was checking equipment out I noticed that the reserve LP tank needed to be turned on. I coulden't get it to budge. So I put some channel locks on and twirted it to the left/open.
Once it was loose I used just my hands to complete the task. Problem is that it came out all the way, stem and all.
They are new tanks, new unit, any reason why it would screw completly out?
Its not like I forced it out. The tank on the oppisite side opens up so far, and you know when it get to the max/open position. Is it just a bad tank, and needs to be replaced???

At the very least, it sounds like it has a defective valve that will require replacement.

Not to be the master of the obvious but that is definitely a bad valve.
I would think that would be covered under warranty.

I tried to open an open valve that was stuck in the open positon. That may have happened to you. The valves are backseated and will not allow gas to flow unless a hose is connected. I was embarassed because I should have known better

Don't be too hard on yerself....we've all done dumb things....most of us just don't admit it. My list would take a lifetime to read.

Glad you are ok, propane can be testy sometimes. Worse things could have happened (ok, maybe not, but I'm trying to cheer you up).
