Aluminum Tanks

Yippeee! we finally found a used set of 30lb Aluminum Tanks locally on Craigslist. They are from a 1971 Airstream and in pretty decent shape with some typical scrapes and scratches. We polished them up over the weekend and they look great. At $80 for both tanks and $60 for new valves we can live with some imperfections. Can't wait to see how they look on the trailer.

Can't wait to see them on your shinny trailer! Remember, they are going to be a couple of inches taller then the steel ones, mine were.

If you remember, we have the small 20lb steel tanks currently and the aluminum ones are much taller. We plan to install them this weekend hopefully. We may have to replace the threaded rod .... not sure yet but we can't wait to see how they will look.

Pictures

They are much taller and went right into place. Everything mounted just as it is supposed to be. The are not perfect, but look much nicer than the Home Depot Tanks we previously had mounted on there. Here are some pictures. We are working on the second pass of polishing this weekend.

The tanks look great, much better then the small painted ones that you had. I need to get some more work done with the cyclo today as well. You guys are making me look bad.

WOW!! How did I miss those aluminum tanks on CL? Oh, probably because I already have some. Those look great. Yup, the Cyclo needs to come out of hibernation now that both you and Richard are going to make me look worse. Can't have the dullest shiny trailer at DH3.

Richard,

We are curious to see how it works. We are going to try a random orbit car buffer on the last pass to see how it removes the swirls. Can't wait to try your cyclo at DH. Have fun today and get lots of rags!

No worries Brad, I think you are still good with the shininess.. We still have to complete the second pass.. it is going much faster than the first one thankfully! We are looking forward to seeing you in a couple of weeks.

I think I should have done this sooner. I need 2 passes with "C" to get it looking good, sometimes 3 passes. It will be a while before I can get to the "S".

Yes - check out the table in this article for weights.. Propane Tanks
You should save about 6 lbs per tank.
