30 lb LP tank sensors

Is there such a thing as an add-on 90 ohm sensor for a 30 lb aluminum tank. I bought an I-Series tank monitor for my holding and fresh water tanks. It has the option the attach to 2 LP tanks with 90 ohm sensors. The only thing I can find online is for horizontal tanks. I was hoping it would be as simple as replacing the valve with one that has a sensor or an adapter to attach between valve and the hose.

I bought sensors and it works great. Mopeka Products "TankCheck." Download app in App Store and stick the sensors on the bottom of the tanks. Buy on amazon.

Interesting. I got those, cannot get any reading beyond empty on my tanks. After one trip, the green feet no longer stay attached making putting a full tank back in place a major pain. I gave up and just took the sensor off.

Contact the manufacturer. They can talk you thru the proper set up and use of the feet.

No reading above empty: You may have the wires reversed. Try flipping them.

Sensor is attached to the bottom of the tank by a magnet - - won't work with aluminum tanks.

Certainly should with some VHB tape.

3M Very High Bond double sided tape. Mentioned ad nauseam by many solar panel installers. I use strips to secure my solar panels to the roof and they haven't moved at all in a year. No other adhesive. Stuff is awesome. I am sure they could hold your sensors on if you got enough surface area

Re. Using VHB tape. To me it seems the tape would isolate the sensor from the tank. I believe it needs direct contact metal to metal.

I have a problem with my #1 sensor. It came with a dead battery. I replaced the battery with a new fresh one and it worked fine. Now it is killing the battery in about a month. The #2 tank sensor is still showing full charge. Anyone else experiencing this?
I am giving the company a call today to see what they suggest.

Maybe you could use it as a strap along the outside of the sensor?

I guess that might work for someone with aluminum tanks. I have steel tanks so no problem attaching them properly.

Update, I just got off the phone with Chris at AP Mopeka Products. They are sending me a replacement sensor. They are also sending new aluminum spacers to replace the soft rubber version previously used. Outstanding customer service.

It's always great to hear about outstanding customer service. Thanks for sharing!

I'm about ready to install the sensors and was curious if the aluminum spacers are readily available? If so maybe I should get them before putting everything together again.

Apparently they have them in stock. Give them a call 800-874-3271.

I called them and you are correct on two counts. First they do have the new aluminum spacers in stock. And second...they do have great customer service. Just had to give them my address and they are sending new spacers at no cost or hassle.

Great customer service indeed!

Thanks for sharing the phone number!

I take a simple approach - it may not work for other people, but it works for us, because once we are at a campsite, we almost always have full hookups, so use gas only for cooking.

Instead of having both tanks open, I only open one. When the stove burners go out, I switch to the other!

I got into this habit after a propane supplier who toured our campsite filling tanks told me that the empty tank I had put out for refilling was not really empty, butthat he had to charge me for a complete refill anyway!

At home, I go through a lo of 20# bottles with my home brewing hobby. In that case, I keep a digital scale in the garage and make sure that the reading matches the tare weight on the tank before I declare it empty and take it to Costco for a refill!

Because I use large burners that consume gas at a high rate, sometimes the bottles frost up and act as though they are about empty - but not always so!

I can minimise this problem though by having the bottle immersed in hot water when in use.
