Personally, I would just buy two new 30 lb cylinders and wax them with car polish wax once a year, you dont even need to buff the wax!

OPD Cylinder Valves. OPD stands for "overfilling prevention device" or "overfill protection device" and is required on all 4 to 40 pound DOT cylinders in vapor service. The OPD valve is simply a protective device that, as the name implies, prevents overfilling of a propane cylinder.

Here is latest info on DOT regs for LP tanks

Ok so I checked the manufacturing dates on the tanks, they were from 2009/2010 so about 9 years old but never used still in their original boxes and have OPD valves on them. The stickers are still on the top of the valves. So my question is. If they have never been used do they still need recertification if it gets past the production date or does it start from first gas fill up? Thanks.

Starts from the date of manufacture stamped on the tank. My aluminum tanks are 1975 and still like new. Been updated many times.

I have weighed both, exchange tanks from walmart and tanks that I had filled at a propane place. There was no difference in the weight.

Worthington tanks

Buy em!! I have a pair of those (stamped 17.7 LB) that I bought in 2002 for almost $400.00. I did not want the steel 15LB Manchesters that came with the EXCELLA. When I traded in my 25' for a new 2017 27' International, I insisted that they keep their Manchesters, and we managed to make the Worthingtons fit. Mine have the gauges on them which can also be wired to an interior console. Great tanks, and no rust You won't regret the deal.

Then you are getting ripped off by the outfit filling them. The label on an exchange tank clearly states 15 pounds, but it's a "20# tank" (and should be filled as such).

I would not doubt that one bit. Seems to be the normn to rip people off these days. I will try another place next time and weigh it afterwards. Thanks.
