Only the officially approved type, size and number of flags can be flown at a WBCCI rally. I fly two, the American flag, and a special "company flag" which has the Airstream/Argosy logo on it, straight from Airstream. Even though it is not offically approved, I have never had anyone ask me to take it down.
Now that we know, let's try to focus on the thread topic, opinions run strong about these things, without going off on a tangent and adding fuel to the fire.

An why wouldn't he? Walley dedicated his adult like to the developement of a design that has seen only five specific body changes in 75 years. In addition, he made it his mission to promote the beauty, design and functionality of the Airstream. Todays Airstream is something I know Wally would be proud to see rolling off the assembly at Jackson Center. well when Wally started the club there were no moho made as ofthe time but argosy was one of the first of moho , so it is a airstream. what is the big beef all about ? the main objective is going camping and have fun.that is why I don't belong to any unit or wbbci . too much bickering. I like the forum for all it's info on repairs and other news.who cares that some one has a big fancy moho.sounds like some one is jeaulous. so what, I sleep just as comfortable as he.I've met only 2 big fancy moho owners that look down on you if your outfit costs less than $ 150,000. but I've run into abunch of TT that were real butthead who thought their poop did not stink.so why don't we all lighten up and enjoy camping.I don't need to belong to a club to go camping.just remember absolute power corrupts. and the way the bickering is going . sounds like a POWER struggle is brewing..

Instead of Airstream Owners of America, how about just call it the Silver Trailers Club. That would eliminate the hassles of licensing with Airstream, etc. Again, it'd be open to about any type of aluminum trailer. Just by numbers it'd probably wind up 95% Airstream, but the other brands would certainly be icing on the cake. I think it'd be cool.

And yes, Sfixx, Argocy's would most certainly be allowed. I would say that when in doubt, let them in. Keep it informal and fun.

Do it like the old ladies around here do with their "Red Hat Club". The only rule is....there are no rules (they crack me up, but those old ladies do seem to have a lot of fun!)

Seriously though, I think Rick is on the right path to make meaningful reform from within. If that can't be done, then maybe the Silver Trailers Club is a viable option.

In the meantime, I'll keep wrenching on mine. I suspect that all this will be sorted out about the time I get mine back on the road

Not sure if the numbers are right

I'm not sure if the numbers are right because several people came into the thread to bash WBCCI. The way I figure it if you don't want to join....dont'. I don't like hunting so I'm not a member of the ARA (I believe saying this in public might get me lynched here in Texas).

I've been a member for 3 years now and am the youngest guy in the club. I figured I'd stick around to see if I can help improve things (not an ego issue, but rather helper).

For example when I look at the AS history book, I forget the name, it shows photos of Wally going to Egypt and having evening sessions around campfires. Now that's camping!!! And this is what I'm going to try and bring to our unit.

Most of the members in our unit are 70++ years. Now truly is the time for a change and to try and attract vintage AS owners. That's because most of us can't afford to pay $70K+ for a new AS.

Ask yourself this question and forget about flags, etc. If you could go to a park/campground and there were 20 AS's there and you knew all the owners...wouldn't that be exciting? This is why I joined WBCCI.

I will admit that the politics sometimes bug me but when I posted a thread about WBCCI that wasn't so positive, someone (in a nice way) suggested I try to change it from inside instead of quitting.

Great Outlook!!

Rick,

Your head is definitely in the right place with regard to changing WBCCI from with-in. I truly hope that you are given that opportunity, and I'll do what I can to help.

If, by some far stretch of the imagination, the IBT has their way and the club starts to head down the tubes without the possibility of a course correction, I'll be the first in line to sign on to your new camping club.....whatever you decide to call it!!

I have you beat: I'm 32. I joined when I was 30.

Sorry for the off-topic-ness, but I couldn't let that go.

Greetings all and please keep the posts coming. For those of you who are not WBCCI members, that's OK with me, you own an Airstream and that is the most important thing here. We all love our Airstreams whether they are Argocys, or Airstream Motorhomes. Yes we all want to have fun, travel and camp together and share good stories and bad. We want to learn form eachother and help out whenever we can. We all want to make friends with other AS owners and when we rally together I want to wake in the morning surrounded by Airstreams and their owners. I want nothing more than for the WBCCI to get it's poop together and for the IBT to get back on track and understand the reason for the organization, AIRSTREAMS. I want to thank everyone for their online support. I am not here to bicker or pick a fight with the IBT, it just seems that the organization is terrible thing to waste. I am warming up to the idea of a silver club if the IBT does not get back to the basics. We need to reinforce the ideals of the Airstream organization and move on whith our focus on the club and not the idle wished of the IBT. There has been way too much money and time wasted on the SOB moho issue. It should be dropped, forgotten and we should all shake hands, make up and move on. No wonder we can not get ne members. As stated by many forum members, who wants to belong to a club that is divided and fighting. Let us all hope that IBT can come back to earth, realize what they are doing to OUR club and put this whole mess to rest. Maybe it's time we find a publisher who will put Wally's book Trailer Traveler back in print and be sure every officer from Region on up reads it!

Again, thank you all for your support!

Rick

I see slight nuances amongst each of the poll questions. IMHO, this is how I interpreted the poll questions:

Will you leave the WBCCI if the MOHO motion passes?

1) Leave if/when it passes: someone who will leave the club immediately if/when MoHo issue passes.
2) Will not renew membership for 2008: someone who will leave the club next year if it passes.
3) Will stay, no matter what: someone who will stay in the club regardless of the outcome of the MoHo issue. This person will not fight to overturn the MoHo issue.
4) Will stay and fight to get it over turned: someone who will stay and fight to overturn the MoHo issue.

You are correct Grasshopper

yukionna is correct!

Though, there is a slight nuance amongst each of the poll questions, it is important.

Meaning:

1. As soon as Perry IBT is over, GONE!!!! SEE YA! My "MONEY" GONE!!
2. Use 2007 to say "Good Bye", Yell about IBT, My "MONEY" GONE!!
3. I don't care, do what you please, will always have my "CASH"
4. I stay, you will always hear me "YELL" IT'S NOT OVER!! LETS FIGHT!!!

So, If one thinks about it, Membership/Money walks right out the door at COB in Perry with number one. Number 2, they have people pissing and moaning for over six months before they walk out the door, not good for the club.(this is why employees get walked to the door). Number 3, Good for them they WON!!. Number 4, The people left will fight, divide the club, not good for the members left and makes it hard to get "NEW MEMBERS".

1-2 are at 42-43% leave of that responded,
3 is at 36% will stay,
4 is at 20% will continue to fight you!

You really need to combine, 1, 2 and 4 which is a total of 62-63% of the people will be unhappy! I think that's sad! There has to be a better way.

Humm. If we assume that this pole is in any sense representative of the membership at large, it looks to me like the IBT is trying to keep a very small percentage of members in (essentially the IBT motorhome owners), but driving off nearly 40% of the rest of the membership. Heck of a trade-off.

Couldn't have said it better or agreed more with these two statements.

I feel that it is important for everyone to know that I sincerely do hope that WBCCI survives and that those who hold control over us members realize the errors which have been made over the past two years. If we can not learn from history we will continue to be ruined by it. I would like to think that at some time in the very, very near future those at the wheel heading for the ravine can somehow realize the vision of our founder, Wally Byrum. As noted below right from the WBCCI website:

He was thus enormously pleased in 1955 when a group of his followers actually beat him to the next logical step; they founded a club of their own which would “localize” caravanning and put it on a year round basis. Of course, they named it after him.

The Wally Byam Caravan Club is now one of the largest clubs in trailering, and it is a remarkable tribute to Wally. It demonstrates once more, and in an excellent way, the effect he had upon those around him. Most men would have insisted upon controlling the club; Wally let his followers keep control.

"Wally let his followers keep control". Boy is only Wally were here today!

Reality check folks. 71 forum members voted. That's less than .oo4 per cent of the forum members. Hardly a mandate folks.

True, but it is as accurate as a sampling can be including error margins.
It happens this way with political polls, Neilson ratings, etc. That simply is the nature of the polling process.
