What are these numbers

I have a 1961 Safari and on the front and rear just above the AS plate are these numbers-10240- and they are about 7 inches tall. Can anyone tell what they mean?

The WBCCI

Do you mean the WBCCI club? Where can I find out any history associated with them?

A previous owner of your trailer was a member of the WBCCI and those were his membership number. The oldest directory I have is the 2008 directory and this was not an active number then. There are folks out here that have older directories and perhaps they will respond and provide you some history.

I have been looking for the thread about the RED membership numbers. I can't find it using the search feature. Would the person that has the records, please try to locate the number for an old 1968 trailer? The number on the front is 1040. Thanks in advance.

Contact Joe, (66Overlander) WBCCI/VAC historian, he has directories dating way back and has been very helpful in finding trailer histories.

In 1969 1040 was assigned to Ralph Chisnell from Jeanette, Pa. This number could have been assigned to many other trailers in the last 41 years.

Congrats on your new purchase. When you call the WBCCI headquarters to join - you can request the same numbers provided they have not been reassigned.

see http://wbcci.org/index.cfm?pageSRC=Contact_Us

Fyi - we've been partying at Ocean Lakes CG in Myrtle Beach the past three New Years Eve's. We will be there again in Dec. Come on down.

#1040 was first assigned in 1957. That person would have originally had a 1957 or earlier Airstream.

In the 1968 Membership Directory, reflecting membership membership as of 12/31/67, #1040 was assigned to Colonel Russel and Nancy Barkalow of Pacific Grove, CA. Same in my 1960 and 1966 Directories. The Barkalow's are listed as having participated on one caravan: 1956 Europe. They obviously did so with a trailer older than your 1968.

Dwitght is correct that the Chisnell's were assigned #1040 in the 1969 Directory, reflecting membership as of 12/31/1968. The Chisnell's are last listed in the 1987 Directory, but no caravans are listed for them.

Depending upon the age of the numbers, it is possible (maybe even likely) that the Chisnell's owned your trailer, but the number 1040 has been recycled a couple of times since then to add a little doubt into the equation. To protect privacy, I will be vague with the more recent people to be assigned that number.

In the 1990 to 1993 Directories #1040 is assigned to a couple from Juneau, Alaska.

Then from 1996 to 2008 it is assigned to a couple from the state of Washington (various cities over that period).

Max,
Since I have already answered your question via email as best I can, I will not repeat it here. I hope that Mike was able to fill in the gaps that I could not.

History of #13280: request

I see that you have helped some folks out with trailer history. I'd be grateful if you could tell me anything about #13280?

This is the wbcci number on my 1965 Safari. The stickers are still intact, faded to somewhere between white and red, so the number may be more recent than 1965, although the skin is in good shape so maybe they are that old. I got the trailer this year from a woman who bought it three years ago from a guy who used it as a hunting shack in the Woodstock/Hunter Mountain area of New York State. I don't know how long he owned it but I don't think any of them were in the WBCCI.

Can you tell if the number is currently available in the WBCCI?

Thanks for whatever you can find out,

Dave Gentile

The number is not listed in the 2010 Directory and should be available.
A call to Home Office will verify that for you.

I will PM you the information I have shortly

All the WBCCI Membership Directoreis are available at WBCCI HQ in Jackson Center, OH. for anyone to do research. I believe the only way to get access to that info is to actually go there! Putting that kind of information on line is costly and probably non on HQ's list of most important things to do!
