Frank,

Myself and another Metro NY member will be at jackson Center for some work on 23-25 June. Maybe we'll join you on the caravan.

Thanks. I had considered that way, but wondered if there was a shorter route that used some non-expressways to cut the corner. For some reason MapQuest says this route takes an hour and 35 minutes longer than just staying on I-90 yet is is only 48 miles longer. The math does not add up. I am beginning to think that MapQuest driving times are woefully inaccurate.

You can avoid the toll road!

I live just west of the Rv/Mh HOF in Elkhart, and you can avoid the toll road. Leave the Rv/Mh HOF and travel south ( turn left) on Co Rd 17 go south to US 20. Now go West to I-94 in IL. I don't remember if the I 94 is toll road or not, but US 20 is a good road that We use for our westerly travels to avoid the Indiana toll Road that has More than doubled the tolls in the past year!! If you travel US 20 west watch for SR 2 west! Take it and keep heading west it will turn back into US 20 west and will save about 25 minutes of drive time. I 94 Goes to Madison but it will take you though Chi town! Safe travels, Mike

Hopefully you will be done by then, if not you can catch up to us. But the more the merrier. Please by all means come along.

A route is in the final stages of being laid out. I will post it here by the weekend. Just like on one of Wally's caravans we will have daily drivers meetings to make sure everyone knows where they are going. For those local. is 90 in Ohio okay? My Ohio turnpike experience is that the tolls are not too bad.

As far as I know I-80/90 is OK in Ohio. We have towed on it and I don't remember the tolls being excessive. ODOT web site doesn't show any construction. Buckeye Traffic

I am not sure where you would be on I-90 in Ohio.

I would guess you would come from Pittsburgh, I-70 to Columbus, I-270 around Columbus to US-33 to Ohio 274 to Jackson Center.

From Jackson Center, Ohio 274 west to I-75, zig north on I-75 two exits to US-33, US-33 west to US-127 north, US-127 north to US-30, US-30 to Fort Wayne, IN. Take the US-30/I-469/I-69 bypass around the north end of Fort Wayne to US-30 W, then US-33 northwest direct to Elkhart.

US-30 is 4-lane most of the way. There's not too much traffic on US-33 in northern Indiana and it runs through the Amish farm country. (Do keep a sharp eye out for horse-drawn buggies.)

That's how I think I'd go, anyway.

Best,
Nuvi

And yet another update...

Many have been asking and PMing for the routes. I am sorry it has taken so long, but there are a lot of logistics not foreseen in laying out a route. The Caravan Leader, Advanced Scout, and I have nailed it down.
As many know we are meeting at a Cracker Barrel at 200 Davis Blvd in Pittsburgh to begin the caravan. Folks will be arriving the evening of the 23rd or early in the morning. Be forewarned we are hitting the road at 8 am prompt. Here is the first days drive to Jackson Center:

Day number two of the caravan will also be leaving at 8 am sharp from Jackson Center. We are stopping at Vintage Campers in Peru Indian for a one hour visit. You do not have to go if you do not want, but most of us will. We then venture on the the RV Hall of Fame for a tour and to spend the night. We will be forming a wagon wheel in the parking lot so the museum can use us for a photo opportunity. The route is as follows:
from:Jackson Center, OH to:2574 S Strawtown Pike, Peru, IN 46970 to:RV Hall of Fame Elkhart IN - Google Maps

The last day will be a long one. We have chosen to avoid Chicago and tolls as possible. The route is promised to be"scenic". Once again, the wagon roll at 8 am sharp. Here is the route we are taking:
from:The RV Hall of Fame to:McKinley Ave/US-20 to:IN-2/State Rd 2 to:IN-2/E State Rd 2 to:IN-2 to:N IN-2/E State Rd 2 to:Lincoln Hwy/W US-30 to:W 81st Ave/US-30 to:E 14th St/US-30 to:211th St/US-30 to:E Haven Ave/US-30 to:W Maple St/US-30 to:I-355 N

A complete packet of maps will be given to each rig. A drivers meeting will take place during happy hour each evening. The routes may need to change if the Advanced Scout and Wagon Boss find major issues along the way.

4:30 am and I am so excited to leave that I cannot sleep.

Got everyone's maps ready to go, trailer is loaded and the fridge is burning strong. Now to just kill a few hours and we are good to go...

We are all parked by a lake on top of a mountain in Northern PA - poised to take off for the rendeszvous in Pittsburg - but apparently I'm the only one who can't sleep.....

you are an early riser just like me. It is very natural to be excited when posed on the cusp of an event like this....

Sleep

That's it! That explains my lack of sleep lately. I'm experiencing subconscious pangs of excitement because I know y'all will be rolling out soon today.

Wish I could be there. Take lots of pics! And more importantly than anything else, have LOTS of fun.

We're at Pennwood park 2 hours from Pittsburg. We'll head down that way about noon to see if anyone's around.

The HoHo will be in tow sometime tonight heading towards Pittsburgh. All depends when the copilot gets home.

Those that know me, know better than to wait up.....
