On to Madison, Celebrate the 50th Anniversary of the African Caravan

Come to Jackson Center, Elkhard or Madison this is the year we are celebrating the Wally Byam African Caravan, Cape Town to Cairo.

The Washington D.C. Unit's Caravan to Madison, WI for the International Rally is a road trip of a life time.

Airstream, the Mother Ship, Jackson Center, OH

RV Hall of Fame, Elkhart, IN

Join other Vintage Airstreams for the big parade into the rally site.

What more can we ask...not much! Well there is a little, just think of the following.....

Rob Baker, leader; Frank Yensan, wagon boss...need there be anything else said? I don't think so.

Well, we need a caboose. We still need someone to step up and become a part of the leadership of this event. Common, someone please take a role in making this happen. The caboose preforms a very important role and we need someone to do it. If someone does not step up, straws will be drawn and the short one does the job.

This is going to be funny, Dave will have to slow down for this position!

Caboose update

Rhonda and her four children will be the caboose from The RV Hall of Fame to the VAC Rendezvous in Wisconsin.
Marc and Becky and Daniel will be doing it from Jackson Center to the RV Hall of Fame.
But.... we still need someone to step up and take the job from Pittsburgh to Jackson Center. Could someone please step up and volunteer? PLEASE

Excellent Doug. I am very grateful you filled the gap.

Now the only thing needing to be filled is my happy hour glass. This event will be the journey of a life time.

It's getting closer to the time to leave for the caravan trip. We will be staying at Pennwood Airstream park on Sunday and Monday night the 21st and 22nd.
It's a great park not far from Pittsburg where the caravan starts. Come on over if you have the time.

I don't want to hijack this thread, but I am wondering if anyone has a good route mapped from the RV Hall of Fame in Elkhart, IN to the International Rally in Madison, WI that avoids the approximately $40 in tolls that would need to be paid towing a tandem axle trailer over I-90 the whole way. Lorrie and I will not be on the caravan, but will be following in your footsteps from the Museum to Madison a few days after you.

Thanks in advance,

I have taken the trip, and don't recomend going through Chicago. Too busy and expensive. Take I94 to I80 and north on I39 for the faster and cheaper way.
Whatever way you pick, stay out of Chicago with a trailer.

I'm attending a convention in Pittsburgh this week, have to head back to Virginia afterwards, but perhaps I will be able to drop in at the Cracker Barrel on my way home so I could at least share breakfast with the group. I noticed that will be the 23rd... Will some be arriving on the evening of the 22nd?

Paula, We are going to be sailing the same sea but at slightly different tides again. I sure hope we meet one of these days. Everyone is coming together in the late afternoon of the 23rd. Doug Rowbottom will be at Pennwood which is not too far away.
