Has the time come?

I can't help but suspect that there is not a good resolution for situation with the WBCCI forum as it currently exists.

Perhaps the time has come for the Electronic communications chair to simply admit that although his intentions were the best some bad decisions were made and simply shut the thing down and start over, learning from the current experience.
If this results in a loss of software or content and leaves the club without a forum for a while, so be it

Had questions about this arrangement with Gibson & the club.

Here's is what I heard.

The software and hosting was offered to the club for free as long as advertising used RV's could be done.

This was described as a very expensive website to setup.

The cost of the software is $195, see here

Hosting a forum of this size can be found for <$150 per year.

Member volunteers can run and moderate the forum at no cost.

So it costs very little to own and run a forum that the club could own and control out right.

----

The content, if the plug was pulled it would be lost, but the club has rights in recovering that content.

Why is that the same group of non members keep complaining about reading Wbcci posts but they keep reading reading them, in fact after their toxic post.

Just look below at users online they are there often.

Don't listen to the naysayers who are spreading negativity.

The Wbcci forums affect members not these naysayers

It would be great if this discussion could be carried on "over There"
As anyone who has tried knows, it can't.
If it could, there never would have been a need for this thread

On my screen it shows this to be the WBCCI forum. Is there a software glitz that causes people that do not want to read WBCCI threads to first enter the WBCCI forum and then to open the individual threads that are clearly marked WBCCI and then to actually read the content only to comment that they didn't want to do it? Or is it user error, like moths to a flame, they cannot look away. Your mind is not your own. Might as well face it, you are addicted! Can't get enough.

the fact that threads LIKE this one can/cannot exist on the wb' forum is a wb' forum issue.

the reality is a thread OR POLL, like this one, about THIS-forums would NOT be allowed HERE either.

is that not OBVIOUS or is more clarification needed?
__________

there ARE websites where this stuff is WELCOMED and can and does HAPPILY exist.

that is WHY the save/defend/cry websites were developed.

any and all of these threads go on OUT THERE.

the issue is MORE potential READERS are here so the acting badly gets a bigger audience here...

that's starting to play OUT as well, but old habits persist by the bad actors.

________________

CONSTANT REDIRECTS to other web sites, MONEY SOLICITATION and so on are against THIS community's policies...

so why are these violations allowed?

perhaps READERS, guests, new account are wanted HERE,

and perhaps letting SOME of this stuff exist HERE is to grow audience (think about it)...?

((of course THOSE ideas are simply fictional examples, offered as fodder for OTHER thoughts...))
__________

there is a "NO THREADS complaining about our mods/admins" rule here

many forums have rules that clearly state something like this...

"bitch about the owners/admins/mods of this community here or ON OTHER WEBSITES, and your account will be closed/banned"

again i can guarantee if a group of folks HERE, started a website to COMPLAIN about the owners/admins/mods...

that sort policy would exist and be enforced here too.
___________

the owner of the wb' site has a business enterprise and is/was a vendor here...

the wb' IS a business enterprise, it's a club AND a vendor...

so bitchn about member dismissals or site moderation or content IS A VENDOR DISPUTE....

there is a POLICY here about vendor disputes but THIS ONE is allowed multiple places and repeatedly?

think about it... it's a vendor dispute.

customers of the club are UNhappy with the financials, products and brand activity

and how PAYING wb' customers (members) are handled...

so WHY is this vendor dispute allowed to continue here ?? (are there perhaps selfserving reasons? )
__________

there is a NO POLITICS policy here...

one would need to be brain dead to NOT see the POLITICS in virtually every one of the wb' threads...

yet THIS bit o politics is tolerated...?

now why is that?

(hint it is NOT because of the a/s content, there is NO a/s content in club politics)

___________

a GOOD wb' forum community would be YET another site/outlet for a/s enthusiasts

this is ~ the 3 or 4th rendition of the wb' forums...and EACH version has had issues...

but they have ALL shared one common feature, the wb forum is COMPETITION for this community.

just as the yahoo a/s group is mistakenly viewed as competition.

((ask hunter WHY she isn't a member here? or WHY she doesn't allow posted REdirecting to good repair content here? ))

folks who operate these various "online communities" need members like a town needs citizens...

so they DO COMPETE with each other and sometimes that competition is intense, ugly, covert and otherwise vicious.

a tiny group of wb' fringe players have an OASIS here, now think about why.

this tiny group's BAD behavior has been allowed to get progressively WORSE,

with progressively CLEARer violations of THIS communityz rules...

why is that?
_____________

the wb FORUM has great potential (any version of it)

it is after all an extension of the "REAL and ORIGINAL" a/s enthusiast community.

the STAFF at the a/s factory actually post and RESPOND to member postings using their REAL NAMES...

wanna bet how much THAT activity is envied here?

outta touch or not the wb' connection to airstream is tangible ...

the paying members are real, the advertising POTENTIAL dollars are real...and so on.

the wb' has real and historic and DEEP connections to the a/s product, company and history and PEOPLE.

they just don't have this cyber thing sorted out well.

and it doesn't take MUCH thinking,

to understand that almost NO OTHER a/s web community WANTS them to sort out being successful...
___________

NOW...

imagine for a moment IF the wb' were a TOWN not a club or website...

the town (as currently managed and VISIONED) within the wb' "city limits"...

would still be a reflection of the wb' charter, ethos and member/leadership dynamics.

they would NOT construct a building space or corral JUST for the chronic whiners to hang out...

so EVEN if/when the wb' someday has...

a super cool, club owned, vibrant website with 1000s of active member postings daily...

they STILL will not allow the stuff they currently don't allow,

it's just NOT part of the club's fabric or history or GOALs...

so the TINY cluster of cry'n whine'n SOMETIMES members...

who want to TAKE CONTROL (without any real vision)...

would STILL need to go OUTTA town to endless bitch.

or beat up EACH OTHER as they currently do.

there would NOT be an "ok corral" for gettin' drunk and shooting each other...in wb'ville.
___________

the REAL question is....

WHY here, WHAT is gained and HOW does allowing this destructive stuff here...

HURT or help this community?

((not that it matters but i consider DISSENT as critical, vital and patriotic action,

but what the cry/save/cry/defend/cry group does....

is NOT dissent anymore than bowel gas is a source of fresh air...))

cheers
2air'

Don't listen to the naysayers like 2air who are spreading their toxic negativity.

Especially when they, like 2air, are not Wbcci members,
they have no dog in this fight.

The main title of this sub forum is WBCCI,
when you see that don't click

OK folks.. Just a reminder that those not wishing to view this content can use the ignore forum option.

Open the forum you want to ignore and select "forum tool" from the drop down menu over on the right. Then select ignore forum.

Alternatively you can manage your ignore lists in your usercp. http://www.airforums.com/forums/cis_settings.php

I'm missing something here...

Janet,

I've got to admit that I am confused about the issue of who can complain openly and verbally (even to the point of naming names), about whom.

By the very fact that this thread hasn't been yanked, may I assume that I am allowed start up a new thread here on airforums.com, complaining about people whose sole purpose in being here appears to be only to grind their axe about issues that are relevant only to things that happen another forum, and on how the connected club for that forum is run?

Personally, I can't see the difference in my starting a thread like that, and the fact that this one is apparently allowed.

Or is there a fine difference I am missing here that you can help me to understand?

If I do that though, I'm thinking I should also put it under the guise of a poll having only options that are negative towards the group I would complain about, and have no choices included that say that the person taking the poll is OK with the type of thread that this one is.

Please give me your thoughts...?

1. Decisions about moderation are made by the site team as a group. Among other things, we try to honor the intent of the forum; Information Exchange. This is balanced with our community rules and posting history and making these decisions is a difficult dance.
2. AIR has long had a topic area for WBCCI related content. It was initially opened in response to member requests for this area because WBCCI had none. We have maintained it for many years and through various web endevours by the WBCCI.
3. The WBCCI may be a vendor in that they are a corporate entity, but then so is Airstream incorporated. By the arguements presented earlier in this thread, it would seem that various gripes about Airstream should also not be allowed? Should only warm fuzzy "I heart my Airstream" posts be allowed? We take the good with the bad and hope that on balance there's more good than bad.
4. About the no politics rule.... Our Community rules are fairly clear that political discussions are acceptable so long as they are associated with the topic of the board. While the original intent was to channel discussions away from election year rants and red v. blue diatribes, it would seems that wbcci politics is topical.
5. We try to encourage ranters to take their rants elsewhere and to that end have allowed links to savewally and other similar sites. But please understand that we try very hard to allow open discussions even if we don't always like the content. Members are still expected to post in a collegial way, however and most often when there is a moderator intervention it is related to this issue.
6. Explore your ignore. Think before you post and remember that others feel just as strongly as you do - but may have a differing view point.
7. The site team would like accept donations of headache tablets and adult beverages.

stop bitching about moderators. this is a website not court

I hate to be the one to point this out, but.... it is an imperfect world. All to often solutions that make everyone happy just don't exist. North Korea is a problem and so is WBCCI infighting, both are just a fact of life I am afraid.

Moderators serve the community because they want to support it, not because they are super heroes. They are volunteers, so take a chill pill.
