I'm sort of tired of the WBCCI site being down most of the time, so I looked up the whois registry info for the site (included below). The admin for the site is one mhall@rathis.com, associated with Rath Information Systems of Ohio, about 17 miles from Jackson Center. While these folks are primarly document oriented (probably handling paper stuff for WBCCI), my suspicion is that these folks also built and probably maintain the site for WBCCI, at least at some level. As almost expected, the email to mhall@rathis.com bounced, so I sent an email with complaint to the other address shown on their site, sales@rathis.com. That email did not bounce.

I've been to the website myself. For being the exclusive club of the best travel trailer on the market, the website leaves a lot to be desired. The club's office building in JC is nice looking and well kept, but the website needs a complete overhaul.

Looks like when the domain name expires 21-Jan-2010 the bouncing email and no phone number will insure that it does not get renewed.

I thought they were going to switch over to wbcci.net ?

Non-WBCCI member here. I have been trying for days to get on the WBCCI web site to research a few things and get information about membership, etc..I have tried both wbcci.org and wbcci.net with no success at all. Not a very positive "presence" ...

If I were a member and wanted information, and had paid the memberhsip fee, etc... I'd be even more frustrated!

And they wonder why they have trouble keeping members and getting new ones.

I get the feeling that we're dealing with folks at WBCCI who do care, but just don't know enough to handle this. (I've had to deal with lots of other folks with the same problem, namely, having the willness, but not the expertise to handle the situation.)

The bouncing emails are not to WBCCI addresses or, as far as I can tell, connected via nameservers to the WBCCI.org site; rather, they were to the person listed as the admin contact in the whois profile for the WBCCI.org site, but employed by Rath Information Services. (This is not unusual. The WBCCI surely cannot afford an in-house IT department; rather, they've alsmost certainly farmed it out, just like gazillions of other organizations do.)

WBCCI.net (as opposed to WBCCI.org) comes up just fine for me in the browser. Owned by "WBCCI Units," WBCCI.net is also quite distinct in its whois profile, apparently having nothing whatsoever to do with Rath Information Services or the nameservers employed for WBCCI.org; see the record below. (As an editorial comment, I really do like WBCCI.net as a tool.)

My main thing is not the content of WBCCI.org or its style, which I can live with, but rather with the fact that it comes up at all in a browser only very infrequently. Wish I could do more for them!

It sounds like some of you know a bunch about websites and what should or should not be done to make a good one and keep it up and running. May I suggest something: Volunteer to build a new WBCCI site for them and keep it up and running! Tell them you would be willing to do it for three years on the third year you could train your replacement. There’s got to be enough “web savvy” members on the forums to help out the cause.

We all talk about how they don’t know how to do it, I’m sure they’d love to have someone step up to the plate that can.

Maybe the reason that wbcci.org cannot be found is related to this story;

About two weeks ago, we covered the release of a DNS security fix meant to patch a vulnerability in the system that matches domain names with IP addresses. The flaw had been discovered by security researcher Dan Kaminsky some months earlier but, at the time, details on the exploit were being kept secret. That information has since leaked thanks to an accidental blog post by someone at Matasano Security. Fast forward four days, and hackers, enterprising little children that they are, have released an exploit aimed squarely at the vulnerability.
This would be less of an issue if the widely released patch from two weeks ago had been fully deployed, but a number of companies or ISPs don't seem to have gotten the memo. Accordingly to Kaminsky, some 52 percent of DNS servers are still vulnerable to the attack.

Didn't Leo Garvey of Save Wally offer his services and they took a pass on the offer? And didn't Kimber of the VAC offer her services for the Blue Beret? How long will we be sustaining the canned subterfuge that there is or ever has been a shortage of people willing to step up to the plate? There is a shortage of leaders that will accept volunteers and that's the real skinny in a nutshell. They don't want you going in there messing in their box. You have to be chosen, plain and simple. There's a computer intraclub, knowlege within the club is not the problem. Procuring positions without recommendations is and we have seen the basis for recommendations and nominations have we not Paul?

I posted on the WBCCI site interested in volunteering for a committee and never received answers to my questions. You submit your information and they will call you if they are interested in you, it's all a one way street and you can not thrust your hand out if no one gives you a hand up. That's the way the system works. Don't let them buffalo you into sympathy and believe they are overworked and no one will help. The volunteers have been meeting early for five years and running on those committees. A couple hours work once or twice a week and you are an early worker with full (free) benefits once the chairman "calls" you. Nice work if you can get it. Sorry for the tirade but you just struck that last nerve I have left with that same old story and line to end conversation and switch the focus off the ones in position to fulfill their charges back towards the general membership's responsibility. When in trouble or uncomfortable just PUNT!
