WBCCI Region stats

Here are the Region totals as per the 2006 WBCCI Directory.Keep in mind these numbers are not official and I have compiled them myself. Also, each year there are omissions for various reasons and human error is also a possibility. It should give you a good idea of Region strength.

Region 1- 259 members
Region 2- 862 members
Region 3-1093 members
Region 4- 699 members
Region 5- 419 members
Region 6- 514 members
Region 7- 198 members
Region 8- 288 members
Region 9- 562 members
Region 10-633 members
Region 11-352 members
Region 12-509 members

Quite a wide range of member totals.

It looks like the MAL Region would be as big as one region and bigger than five others.

Nice pic you painted there Mike! Looks like another motion to be worked out!

Thanks to you for the hard work compiling the statistics. The numbers are very telling and do help to build a picture of what is happening.

Mike,

Thanks for the stats! Did you get the data totally from membership directories?

Hi Renee

Yes I did and even though I am aware of a few units who were late returning renewals I believe them to be fairly accurate. To accumulate the 3 groups of stats I've posted recently required a couple thousand hours of 'work' but worth it to me.

I believe, IIRC, I am in Region 3. When I camped at Top of Georgia Airstream Park, the host told me that it was the largest. He may have meant that the unit was the largest with over 200 members.

I certainly have been seeing a lot of forum members of late that are being active and posting that are from Georgia. But I still wonder why I so rarely see Airstreams when I camp. Do I just not camp in the right places?

BTW, make that 1094 in Region 3, we joined in August and just got our numbers this week, too.

Welcome aboard .The Georgia Unit(#032) is the largest unit in Region 3 with 316 members as per the 2006 Directory.
The only larger unit in the whole club is the Washington Unit (#112) with 343 members in the 2006 Directory.

You know, I think he may have said they have had over 200 at the unit ralleys. Anyway, thank you for the welcome. We enjoyed our stay in early August. I read in the unit newsletter that TOG is getting quotes to add wireless internet...kewl. Full hook up, level concrete trailer parking pad, cable TV, hiking trails, wi-fi and great views for under $10/night...hard to beat that. Now if I could just remember to bring an outdoor table next time.

Strength in "numbers" is a red herring

Having helped rebuild one unit, NEU, I can tell you that numbers can be misleading at best, if you do not know the health of the respective units. Our unit member count is not much different today than back in 98, when I joined. But the activity level of those who are on the books is much better today.

There is a huge risk that they are trailing indicators since they say nothing about level of member activity. Just look at what happened at Region 11. They are supposed to have more members than us and yet they had to cancel their region rally while we had a quite good turnout. Go figure.

Also, lets not forget that WDCU charges $1/year for membership. I'd be willing to bet that it is at least one contributing factor to their member count. That is $14/year cheaper than being MAL.

Region or unit activity level is a whole other issue from number of members. Some Regions and Unit cover huge areas and some rather small areas. Officially only units have a geographical footprint. Units do not. Get a survey of activity, ie number of trailer days at rallies by unit and then you will see that some don't even existence anymore.

You make a lot of good points. The numbers were posted to increase awareness and to promote discussion. Thanks for your contribution.
