I belong because I am........Simple enough.....Ol BMW pilot also who has done the tent thing at to many events to count and now demands the AC, coffee in the maker over there on the counter as I sit under the awning, a real mattress, and that beautiful white noise that the AC or fantastics make.
Mess up my beautiful home with stickers just to belong to the herd? Just to say that I am one of YOU? I am because I am...............

The beauty of all the motorcickle rallies is that no matter what one rides, though a bit different, you are one of us.
No stickers, no flags, no berets, no tuxes, and no rules other than the rule of Jesus.

not quit sure I understand your point. You belong to the club and go to club events, but putting on your numbers is being part of the herd? Sounds like you are already part of the herd.... Never really considered myself part of a herd by being a member of the WBCCI. If you do not want to put any decals or stickers on your trailer, that is one thing. It has nothing to do with your participation in group events. I wonder if you go to church, is that being part of the herd? Oh, right, part of the flock.... Are you a registered voter affiliated with a political party? That is a herd too right.

However you feel comfortable is fine by me... wear your numbers or hide them... burn them in front of the Mothership for all I care. It just seems odd to me that it is such a big deal.

maybe the fact that they seem to melt into the aluminum forever, seems to bother some. i know it bothers me. maybe if there was an acceptable way to display them, such as on the glass, in a more subtle way, i'd feel better.

Virgin skin

My 1958 Sovereign of the Road had virgin skin on it.. it's never seen the Big Red Numbers until now.

So, now, when I'm going down the road, you can grab your directory, like I do, and look me up to give me a shout!!!

SYDTR!

Like Rob, both of our trailers had virgin skin with no numbers. The Safari had the numbers applied before we went to the Salem International in 2006. No one complained for the previous 3 years. The Liner has temporary numbers in the front and rear windows and will have numbers in the proper spot as soon as the exterior is polished.

I have never understood the entertainment value of looking up the red numbers while on the road. We have done it, and we go 'oh look, that's so and so out of Seattle' or whatever, and go 'hmm, that's interesting', and then the journey continues. It's not like knowing that gives you any other connection with them. If it's friends we see on the road we usually recognize their rigs without needing to see numbers.

It's interesting to me that it does seem to be a way to clearly mark that you are part of the club, and as such there is some peer pressure, as exhibited in this thread, to put those number on and join the group. That peer pressure in the WBCCI over various things, from numbers to properly displaying flags to correct dress for dinner, is all part of the 'tradition' that some people love, and other people find off-putting. I heard one person refer to my generation as 'generation why?', because we want a reason for everything we do, instead of just doing what we're told

But even though I'm a rebel at heart my trailer wears it's numbers, because they nicely cover up the ghost numbers behind them.

ndumbers...

the numerals served a purpose at the beginning...

on epic caravans or so they say...

and before other means of communication and identification were developed.

at least that's what the history carriers suggest...

and they do allow messages 2b delivered at the international,

if your ceebee is on the fritz...

but like so many old club gyrations, chants and protocols...

red numbers is past do for a freshening.

the red is a ritual or trailer tat' for wanna bees...

-the new blue is cool, long live the blue...

or how 'bout some GIANT bar codes on the end caps...

or radio transmitter rice sized implants for members and trailers...

these work for finding lost dogs...

i'll bet an implant chip with some cb frequencies built in, is doable.

cheers

Easily doable, bit likely not legal. Check with the FCC first.

Personally, I think I'll pass on the flesh-embedded radio transmitter. I don't have the desire to put any more RF waves through my body than are already present in the air every day.

Hey thats me!!! I thought I was a wanna bee before I got my trailer. I bought one and thought I then became a new bee. Turns out I am still a wanna bee.

I am nobody's wanna bee.

I am a brand new bee.

Ain't nobody can take that away from me.

Unless they re-possess my trailer you see.

Then I am a no bee.

Yeah, I'm with you. If I had a restored Airstream or a new Airstream, I would definitely think long and hard about whether to apply the numbers. They're fine when they're on the camper; it's when they come off that things get ugly.

That said, I do have the numbers on my B-van, but they're on the glass window so it's a bit of a different situation (I never got around to putting the numbers on the back of it).

I just got out of the club if you want 5131 mounted on cling film I will send it to you. At least I think it is 5131 that is how much I used the numbers.
