Well, I guess they don't know much about Wally Byam then. He not only invented the trailer, but also a lifestyle to go with it.

This will give you a taste of what I am referring to:

and even folks who DON'T LIKE each other...

and in each case a GOOOOFFY SMILE is generated within seconds of putting on the dreaded beret...

I like the passing of the hat and await 2air's arrival so I can have my 15 minutes of fame. I could wear a shower cap under it to protect myself from 2air's bacteria.

But, onward—one part of Wally's creed: "To encourage clubs and rallies that provide an endless source of friendships, travel fun and personal expressions".

First, "clubs" which could mean the WBCCI is not the only club. "Travel fun" is not characterized by the disputes that occur within and outside the WBCCI. Certainly there are lots of "personal expressions". Friendships certainly occur, but also a fair number of enemies seem to be generated. This is like parsing a religious tract.

From what I have read, Wally was a first rate promoter, a classic American entrepreneur and a guy with a pretty good design who encouraged the development of a lot of innovative products for his trailers. He seemed to have a high regard for his company and that it have a good reputation and quality: "To refine and perfect our product by continuous travel-testing over the highways and byways of the world." That last part seems to have been forgotten by the company. Much of his creed, maybe all of it, is great PR, and may have been totally sincere, but calling it a "creed" is going a little far.

I have no idea what the "creed" has to do with the way the WBCCI is run now. As someone said, he's not around and he is not running the WBCCI. How the present governance of the WBCCI operates has nothing to do with Wally, his memory, his family or his accomplishments.

Whether he would like or not like the present day WBCCI governance is unimportant—what is important is whether Airstreamers today like it or don't. Most don't and more don't every year. If the leaders blame that on the Forum, or on people who point out problems, they need to get a mirror. Did not Wally take personal responsibility for what he did? It's this simple—it's not working and it needs to change really fast.

They say if you hang around a given group long enough, it starts to wear on you, and you become one.

Wonder if Andy has been hanging around those "Brazil nuts" too long?

Have fun Andy, the states are going wacko, since the cost of living allowance for next year, for Social Security, has been scratched.

Regards.

Andy

The COLA for Social Security was scrapped because there's been no inflation and in fact, cost of living has dropped slightly. Fortunately they can't lower Social Security and because SSI is not going up, neither can the premium for Medicare Part B.

Even the quality of Zentner's Daughter isn't that great anymore. I haven't been out to the original Zentner's (Lowake Steak House) yet, but I hear that Travolta flies there from time to time (they have a landing strip behind the restaurant), so it must be somewhat decent, given his girth, !

Yep, no inflation. But the dollar is going into the toilet. So you can't buy as much as you used to.

LORDY!!!,
I've just spent the last hour going thru this thread, and in typical forum direction, it has led me everytwhere on the map- and off it...that, of course, will not stop me from commentary...
I think the WBCCI provides a necessary structure, although I think that structure needs(badly)restructuring...opinion is quick, but resolution isn't yet proposed...financially, the organization is currently a train wreck, but even that can be repaired...gonna take more activists than critics, but it can(and I believe, will) be turned around...more and more units are doing things just to do them...oh, say, like camping and visiting...? Our unit(4CU) has to pony up the WBCCI dues, but club dues are only a buck(the other $55 goes for a shaky umbrella coverage for rallies, and feeds a lot of people it also sends to rallies...expenses paid)...to me, that is inexcusable...pay yer own way, get a sugar-daddy/momma, or just quit...
Ya need to PAY ATTENTION to what Dale(PeeWee) says...he has been there, done that, and probably has more Airstream experience than anyone else gracing this forum...and it IS an experience, not just a trailer/motorhome...been with Wally since dirt, and learned a lot that ya oughta PAY ATTENTION to...'course, that's only my kinda humble opinion...
Summer, if I was younger, would ya marry me?...any woman wearing mens underwear, anywhere, is a prize...and this comes to you, directly, from the official Trailer Trash Queen...actually, I will probably have to check with my wife about that marriage thing, so I'll get back to you about that, or you can just read my obituary...
