Sturgeon's Laws
After the public revelation of the new constitution and after its thorough scrutiny by the concerned membership and after the subsequent amendments and bylaws are eventually considered, debated and maybe resolved and maybe passed, will those final resulting documents as adapted fall under definitions of Sturgeon's Laws? Lets hope not.
1st Law: “Nothing is always absolutely so.”
2nd Law: “90% of everything is crud.” (Or something like it.)

Pruning and Grafting
Pruning and grafting. So many who stepped up to volunteer with fresh ideas and energy and enthusiasm and care deeply for and about the WBCCI and the issues facing the club and how the club conducts and presents itself have been pushed out the exit door one way or another, or have settled back down to become part of the other large group of many that are content to pay their money and will remain members no matter what. And it is this remnant that grows their total percentile in the WBCCI and become our next leaders, and that's not good for the club. We have seen the pruning leadership has done and we have also witnessed the grafting in of others! This is no time to abdicate the collective power of unit assembly and initatives but rather time to regroup and meet the challenges ahead or be prepared to become another of the afore mentioned groups...

Winding down
Another indication of the loss of enthusiasm is that the registration for the March Region 9 rally is only in the 40s even though the rally price has been slashed and provision made for short stays for working folks. This is about 1/3 the number for recent R9 rallies.
Region 9 has too much money in the till and the rally fee has been slashed to use up some of that money before the IRS gets interested. Looks like it will benefit a small number.

I think Carol is on to something. Just like political parties, when the ranks are thinned, the apathetic and people who are even more extreme are left.
Then you get leaders who either don't care or are autocrats.
Thus, more decline.
Unlike a political party, it takes some money and effort to rejoin a club and reform it. With a party, all you have to do is vote (though it appears a lot of people don't bother even with that) and take the party back.

For what its worth: the Doom Loop
Here is something from the book "From Good to Great". In the book the author pairs each of the great companies with one that started in similar condition and uses them for comparison. He noted the cycle below in companies that fail to thrive. He calls this the doom loop. Seem applicable to anyone else?

Naysayers
One who frequently engages in excessive complaining, negative banter and/or a genuinely poor and downbeat attitude.
Naysayers are distinguished by their tendency to consistently view the glass half empty, make frequent one-way trips to negative town, and constantly emphasize the worst of a situation.
They have the capacity to rant and whine for hours on end about the most insignificant inconveniences.
They tend to travel solo, but have the keen ability to spread their pessimistic attitude to a group of unsuspecting bystanders and encourage others to employ their mindset.
Naysayers tend to blend in with those around them rather well, granted they have learned over the years to adapt to their surroundings.
However, when the opportunity arises, their true nature will be exposed and they will stop at nothing to exclude others or bring a general sense of negativity to any situation.
Seem applicable to anyone?

Self Enlightenment
Bob,
Based on your “Naysayer” postings through the years towards the IBT/EC7 and rants of how they were running/destroying the club, to now using that same “Naysayer” venom against those who you once rallied with in your post since being placed on the re-write committee, it’s good to see you are able to at least see the “Naysayer” in yourself and finally admit it.
I guess the only difference is you have gone from standing outside of the tent peeing in, to inside the tent peeing out. I will say though, this time around you have only been able to rally one other person to your cause.
Congratulation on the self enlightenment.

Paul
Are you saying that the other 4 members of the Committee do not share Bob's commitment and he was able to completely rewrite a New Constitution all by himself? I suspect the others will feel slighted by your comments.

No Howie, I'm talking about you.
The ones you speak of have always been postive people from what I know of them.

The importance of diversity of thought and expression must be upheld, and should be, both revered and encouraged. Within any group there must exist more than a solitary scorekeeper and interpreter of events. Each must examine for themselves to make their own determination as to sincerity or display, credibility and substance.
Some see trouble in the club. Some see " troublemakers." The danger when one paints opposing viewpoints as negative in nature is that it devalues the rational side of politics. If political movements are not only seen as wrong but seen as a web of malevolent forces it encourages a hostile climate that looks to expose enemies and vilify those that don't agree with the status quo, rather than to engage in argument. What is troublesome is the unusual self-proclaimed capacity to discredit virtually every point and direction different from one's own. It confirms the worst charactures of a gauche and inept type of leadership. We need to maintain open lines of communication regardless of origin or opinion.
For all members of the WBCCI to come together to forward the club and examine the proposed new constitution for approval or rejection and or propose changes a tolerance and respectful attitude and a cooperative spirit of good team membership should be adopted rather than personal grandstanding.

Who blends in?
Mona Lisa Vito: [Vinny looks at her funny] What?
Vinny Gambini: Nothing. You stick out like a sore thumb around here.
Mona Lisa Vito: Me? What about you?
Vinny Gambini: I fit in better than you. At least I’m wearing cowboy boots.
Mona Lisa Vito: Oh yeah, you blend.

I was worried about the Kool-Aid and what might be in it....... (OK, maybe not productive, but humorous to me at least).
