In the September, 2005 BB, Donna Garner, Membership chair reports the following...
"A vote of the delegates is the only way that our constitution can be changed". A high ranking WBCCI official makes a statement that is profoundly incorrect and it gets published unchecked? This frightens me to no end.

She does make one important point in her report - "changing our constitution really needs to be considered carefully. The members need to have time to understand the proposal and time to conceder its impact on the club and membership".

It is not the only way to get an amendment passed - just the easiest. The better way is by submitting a certified amendment proposal back down to the units for all of them to vote yea or nay.

It's in the constitution....

But why wouls a high ramking officer or chair publish this and why would the WBCCI not check the accuracy of that statement?

I have been in the publishing business long enough to know that facts like this are checked and triple checked before going to press because errors like this can cause huge problems. Who is checking the statements the WBCCI officers and chairs members are making??

Well, I don't know the parties or the issue and I'm too lazy to check the constitution, but I have had enough experience with volunteer organizations to know there is likely little if any proofreading (except by the writer). Overworked volunteers don't always watch their words closely enough.
