WBCCI Membership for Full Timers?

We have been traveling full time for the past 10 years and will probably continue to travel for another 10. In 2006 we bought our 1976 Ambassador and, thanks to, have fully renovated it for extended trips across the US and into Canada and Alaska. Originally we wanted to travel throughout Mexico but by 2009 had decided against it.

One of our objectives has been to stay in or near a National Park or wilderness area all year. Last summer we spent 5 months traveling through BC, the Yukon, Alaska and back. This summer we stayed in northern Washington state just outside of North Cascades NP and this winter we will return to Arizona via Utah. Next year you might find us in Glacier NP in the summer and somewhere in the desert SW in November.

Other Streamers we have meet along the way have recommended we join the WBCCI. It is my understanding that we will need to join both the national WBCCI as well as a local group. Since we do not live in any one state is there a WBCCI group of full timers we can join?

When you join WBCCI, you can join a local unit or you can become a member at large and not belong to any unit. There is currently some activity to possibly start an intraclub within WBCCI for full timers. The current WBCCI International President is a full timer, so there definitely is a place in the club for full timers.

A couple of options:
1 - Join as a "Member at Large" (MaL) so that you don't belong to any Unit or Region, but you still belong to the International club. You have to pay MaL dues, which are as high or higher than most Unit dues. That's deliberate, to financially encourage MaLs to belong to Units instead. But being a MaL has a certain appeal in that it puts you one step farther away from club politics.
2 - Pick a Unit. Any Unit. Join that one. There is no requirement that you belong to a unit in your "home" area. In fact, you can switch Unit memberships every year; you're not locked into any one Unit from one year to the next (unless you're an officer in that Unit). That can be a valid approach for full-timers who will be in one area for the majority of a given year, to find a Unit in that area and join.
3 - Join multiple Units. One will be your "primary" Unit, and that's the Unit you vote in, if you vote at all. In all the other Units you join, you'll be an Affiliate Member. Which gets you on that Unit's mailing list for upcoming events. If you go with this option, you'd pay International dues once, and Unit dues for every unit you join.

Side note, it's also theoretically possible to be a MaL and an affiliate member in any number of Units at the same time. Joining a Unit as an Affiliate doesn't automatically negate your MaL status.

Honestly, it doesn't matter which Unit(s) you belong to. Any member in good standing of any Unit (or any Member at Large) is theoretically invited to any WBCCI function anywhere, as long as you make your reservations soon enough to get a space and you pay your fees.
