Plastic Covering?

It's not unusual for ours to arrive with damage. This issue was fine but many issues are torn and dog-eared as in the OP's picture.

Why is yours sent in a plastic covering? I didn't realize that was available. Maybe I never thought to ask. Did you request special mailing - maybe 1st class? I think mine is sent regular (a.k.a junk mail) status so I get what I (don't) pay for. Inquiring minds want to know...

I believe the reason I receive it in a plastic covering is because I live outside the U.S. I did not make any special requests.

Not sure how the BB is mailed out as there is no indicia (that little postal square printed on it) but the VA is sent out presorted, first class and it has the proper permitted indicia indicating that. I believe that polybagging may be a requirement for "International" addresses. I am not sure because the mailing house who mails our stuff just takes care of that for us.

Blue Beret is not sent first class in the US, unless specially requested and a fee paid to Jackson Center. "Magazine class" is not forwarded by USPS and can be a problem for people going to the South for the winter. If VAC is paying first class, that is a higher cost for that Interclub.

If we want to reduce WBCCI's cost of operation, we should consider offering a discounted membership dues fee for those who are willing receive over the net delivery via "Constant Contact" and avoid the hard copy costs of production and mailing.

We could still offer the "Blue Beret on line" as an advertisement to attract new members to the club.

You're blaming WBCCI for trying to save money and print a less expensive magazine? And it's WBCCI's fault that the Post Office destroys it? Wow.

FWIW, mine almost always arrives in perfect condition.

I am not blaming WBCCI for keeping cost under control by using less that first class mail. It is the most logical thing to do. What I am saying is " If we want to increase the number of members, we might consider reducing the cost of membership by offering a discount to those members that are willing to accept delivery of the Blue Beret over the net, rather than demanding that they receive a hard copy. Mine also is frequently received in good condition. but occasionally, it is mangled by the USPS.

I think leadership should make the club and its operations more flexible to meet the common member's needs and desires.

Sorry, that wasn't aimed at you - it was more about the general tone of this thread.

I get Trains and Model Railroader every month, too. They are occasionally mangled by the PO, and they're printed on very nice paper. I even got one that had a major printing error - several pages were duplicated, and it was missing other pages. In other words, the quality of paper doesn't prevent damage or errors.
