What 6 year old doesn't get hooked on bean bag tossing? I'm not suggesting you buy this one, but I've seen a ton of home made ones at Nascar races. It's usually a real challenge at about 10:30pm for the adults!

Oh yeah! -- we see lots of these when we visit Ohio. Isn't it called cornhole toss or something like that down home? Don't know if this has hit New England yet. Not a lot of corn growin' 'round here. Maybe we could make beanbags out of whatever kind of beans we use to make Boston Baked.

There once was a book of games in the hippy era called the "The New Games Book". It has stuff for all ages. I'll see if I can find my copy. It's worth it if you can find it.

Another youth activity -- geocaching!!

Just before our weekend getaway to Vermont a few weeks ago, rgesch sent me a note saying that if I had a GPS handheld to bring it along. She wanted to try out geocaching. This is something I'd heard of but had never tried before, so I was game. There was a geocache site very near the campground and R&Rgesch scoped it out first and found it. We met up with them at the discovery site on the way home from the farm and it was perfect timing to show our kids how it works and what the cache looks like. They were so excited! Who knew there was actual buried treasure out there to be found? They are already looking into geocaches for future trips.

Btw, you don't have to have a GPS handheld to find a cache, but it helps. Also, if the kids are into geocaching, there's another form of this called letterboxing they might be interested in.

For more information: geocaching.com and letterboxing.org
