WBCCI decals tacky looking?

Does anybody else think these decals look tacky? I just joined but cannot bring myself to trash up my trailer by applying them.

You think that's tacky? The simplified version that appears on the berets is worse! But, it's tradition, and there is no possible way the powers-that-be in WBCCI will ever hire a graphics designer to come up with something new and stylish.

Especially since a new design would mean that a few thousand trailers would all need to have new logos applied. And that's not even considering the issue of trademarking a new logo design…

Mind you, 20th Century Fox is still living in the last century, too, so WBCCI isn't alone in that!

I understand traditions but I still cannot bring myself to do it. I may go to a boat decal place and get some numbers with shading or something that look better. In any event, I think I will wait until I actually sign up for a caravan.

Oh! You mean the numbers. I thought you meant the round WBCCI logo that goes above the numbers, which really IS tacky. The numbers themselves aren't anything special, just 6" tall red digits. Since my Airstream is an Interstate, which has a fine steel body by Mercedes, I went to FastSigns and had magnetic signs made with the logo and my numbers. If memory serves, the font for the numbers was Helvetica Bold, proportionally spaced. But memory may not serve, so discuss it with your sign maker. I think you'd be okay with any sans serif font.

If you want shading, why not get the letters made from a red vinyl material that's about 1/8" thick, so that sunlight provides natural shading?

Trash up! I personally think a trailer without red numbers is missing something! If you don't want to stick them on your end caps, many people apply them to front stone guard or to a piece of plastic they then hang.

Also google those old Caravan photos from the 60's, and see all the numbers on the trailers, it is just part of the history of Airstreaming.

..... or just don't put them on. No one is forcing you to!

First off, welcome to the WBCCI. Thank you for joining. I hope you enjoy the opportunities thee club offers you.

Might I suggest you consider researching ideas other members have had for displaying their membership. Some have simply applied red numbers to a plexiglass panel that is displayed on the front of the unit when desired.

Please don't let the pounding of negative thought get you flustered about the WBCCI. The squeaky noises minimize after a while.

Then don't. It's all good.

If I had a good clearcoat I'd hesitate, too. But my clearcoat is pretty rough, and has the ghost of prior numbers, so why not?

I'd argue with your choice of words - "trash up" my trailer? Nah.

Seems like part of the number idea is while you are underway, other members can look up who you are. I do not think a plexiglass board gets that done; it would only be good while parked and in no wind.
Magnetic would be great if it were not an aluminum trailer. Where can I locate other ideas?

FastSigns doesn't just do magnetic. They also do adhesive signs on a clear background, so you can add all of your digits and the round WBCCI logo all at once, and all properly aligned. Being adhesive, you can stick the signs to your trailer, your windows, your propane tank cover, whatever.

I have heard of people putting their numbers on "Cling Film" but have no experience with it myself

I ordered self-spacing, self-adhesive numbers on line from a sign shop. I specified 96329632 to save a bit and cut them apart. These are a lot easier to apply than decals. I ordered non-bold 6" numbers and everyone comments on how much nicer they look than the bold number decals from WBCCI.

I think an Airstream without those red numbers looks naked or like something is missing.
