I'm new to vintage Airstreams. I don't know for sure what the Flying Cloud was or what the whale tail was. I am guessing the Flying Cloud was one of the smaller units that either pre-dated the Bambi or was a medium sized unit between the Bambi and the larger 25'+units. I am also guessing the whale tail was a back that tapered both vertically to the bumper and horizontally to the middle. Is either correct?

Being that the flying Clouds and Safaris were quite similar in size and layout, perhaps an "Anniversary Edition" Vintage style Safari would be a great way to bridge the gap from old to new. Safaris are still available, and a 22 foot remake of a 1963 Safari would just simply rock!
"Safari" has got to be the longest running name they have, no?

25 foot, 13 segment shell, dual axle, front and rear wrap windows.
Rear queen, side shower and toilet, Dinette, L shaped couch up front.
Interior anodized aluminum. (light gold), Tambor Doors on the cabinets.
Dual bateries, 50 gal fresh tank, 70 gal combo waste tank. Solar on top.

Thumbs up

The blue beret just came with an invitation for input on what would be the "perfect trailer" for the Golden Anniversary Trailer that the factory is planning for this year.
Suggestion are to be sent by email to CReed@wbcci.org with "Golden Anniversary Trailer" in the subject line
or flat mail to
Golden Anniversary Trailer
C/O WBCCI, P.O. Box 612
Jackson Center, OH 45334

If you really want to see Flying Cloud or other old style redone, get your suggestion in.

Just guessing here but is the Anniversary unit out or announced???

Saw pictures of a 2005 25' Safari - 6 sleeper - that looks like it took in quite a few of the above suggestions. In fact we like that design so much - we may just stop our search for the 69 model and go for the new one!!!!

I'd like to forgo the next vehicle loan and pick up a new Safari - just one that was gently used - maybe by a couple who have severe 2footitis after about the 3rd year.

That would put it at 2008 - and would make a great 25th Wedding Anniversary present.

The only problem - the hubby only reads the DIY posts - so he will never see this one Means I will just have to buy it for him.

I sure hope that's not it. Just another trailer with shelf liner for walls. Guess if you want a 54 cloud you'll have to buy one and build it yourself.

Hello,

For all that are interested, Colonial just received a 2006 Airstream Classic 30' Slide-Out with the WBCCI 50th Anniversary Edition package. I have taken many photos to document this totally unique and very rare trailer. I hope you all enjoy.

Wow! That is a really beautiful coach. I think that is probably the best decor I have seen in a classic so far. It would really be great with a warm color corian counter top, but still pretty nice looking.

Hmmm....while this is a nice trailer, it's obvious that Airstream missed the mark on this one. If you go back to the original post on this thread, I think most of us hoped for something else more indicitive of a new "old" trailer.

I would have hoped that this Anniversary Edition trailer would be more than some exterior graphics, fancy wheels, an etched mirror, and a special sofa. Pretty lame in my book, especially when you look at some of the ideas expressed in this thread.

I agree, Roger Williams Airstream in Weatherford, TX sold a 34 footer a few weeks ago. The gold trim was cheesy as was the cheap decal on the mirror. The only nice touches were the sofa, which would have been better without the embroidered anniversary logo and the real hickory paneling.

Right on, Jack. What a letdown. This shows just how little imagination they really have without the help of outside design firms. This thing looks like it should be in rap video on MTV, for all the gold accents etc. Pulled with a dubbed out Escalade.
Sorry for Aistream, if this is the best they can come up with for a heritage trailer.
