Question Washington DC Unit - What Happened

Last year your black t-shirts were all over the Perry, GA rally. This year we can't find anyone. I was expecting to see your activism again.

I felt sorry for your delegate. Apparently she was put in that position at the last minute, with little preparation. When she cast your vote incorrectly (again I don't think that was her error) she was given help to recalculate your vote and ended up with 103 abstentions. Somehow I don't think that's what you intended.

I tried to talk with here after the meeting was over, but she was angry, a little embarrassed, and stormed out. Please tell her I was in support.

Randy

Could you please explain what an abstentions is. I do not feel that was what MY vote was.

Abstention

An "abstention" is when you are "not" casting a vote. My understanding, out of all the votes casted during our voting, only "two" members voted for our current IBT leadership (Prez, 1stVP, 2ndVP), the rest of the voting members left that vote "blank" which equals an "abstention" during our vote.

So, if one thinks about it, the WDCU sent a very "clear" message to the membership of the IBT and that is this: "The WDCU has little to no faith in the current IBT". And this clearly shows by the fact that out of a unit of over 100 members only a few were willing to cast a vote for their leadership.

Since there was no others running for the the spots of IBT Prez, 1stVP or 2ndVP we were unable to vote for them.

So, talk about "activism again" from the WDCU, I'd say we were very active.

Since I'm not in a "leadership" role this year with the WDCU, I don't know much about the delegate and how that came to pass. I would contact Pete Daniel the WDCU Prez about that issue.

Last year

Frank,

I was the WDCU "Prez" last year (2006/2007). Pete Daniel is your current WDCU President.

Also Frank, based on your comment, you may have been "One of the only two" that voted for the current IBT. Glad to see you have fallen lock step with the IBT.

Frank are you sure you did not cast your vote about 2:30 in the morning Friday night at the East Coast VAC Rally. If I remember, your mind was not real clear at that time.

What happened? Well we were at the "East Coast Vintage Rally" where there were no debates, meeetings, voting, over priced electric or thousands of $$$$ to get there. Just fun and games, partys into the night, happy hours by the river and kids running around everywhere. I look forward to next year and a bigger rally.

I was as clear as you. It was you and I closing it down... clear enough to remember you inviting me to come live at your house even though you hated me. Paul, That was the best party I ever hosted. thank you again. I am very glad you are part of my unit.

Oh, yeah Paul, I was excluded from voting. No one contacted me or let me know there was to be a vote. How about that? See, there is a slight lack of communication going on right now. Some unit members hear things through the yahoo group and some are on an email list and some get snail mail and some get none. I get some, but not enough.... kind of out of the loop right now on this vote

Well that certainly sounds like more fun than I'm having. However, I think your unit could have made more of an impact, if when they called for the vote to elect the unopposed positions a NAY came out of the crowd from your delegate. These people think ignoring the opposition is okay. That's why we never see them on the Forums responding to anything. You got to keep on their backs as Leo and others are doing, not just ignore them completely.

Hope to see you guys in Madison, WI next year.

Randy

Randy, I suspect you will see a long line of us rolling in at Madison next year. I know that I am firmly committed to going next year and heard that many others are planning on it too. The WDCU will be represented by Rob Baker next year and I am certain that he will have a very hands on approach to leadership. I have also heard that the voting is very much a sham and the IBT runs pretty much unopposed. I think I will just worry what happens locally and let all those old school club guys feel they are in charge. But let me tell you, next year, there will be a WDCU party going on in Madison.

Yes we will!

It'll start on the eve of the VAC Parade and continue until Wally's Birthday!!! I can't wait. Yes, Frank, much hands on, and alot of communication will be improved upon. The Rallies are looking good as well. So, yes - the WDCU will be as strong as ever next year!

It MAY start even sooner...

I am thinking of hosting a Pre-Pre-Rally gathering in Indiana where people can meet up, spend a night, then caravan to the VAC pre-rally gathering.

One of the advantages of attending this is that "I" have the secret route to Madison that avoids all of the NE Indiana/Chicago congestion PLUS all of the obscenely high tools you have to pay in Illinois....

Nothing firm yet - details to follow....

Dave,

For those us us who live near that NE Indiana/Chicago congestion... that route is no secret.

Our home base is about 60 miles east of the rally site. We hope host/join in with all our WDCU buddies on their way into Madison. Your Wisconsin Unit brethren looking forward to hosting a big bash.
