My former neighbor, a dear friend, also lives in Portales. Guess that must be a third of the population.

Brad,
As I recall, Portales has 12,000 nice people and a few old grouches, at least according to the sign on the north side of town. Made many trips to Portales, our oldest daughter went to Eastern New Mexico University from 1993 to 1997.

We need about five additional committed charter members to get this going. I would like to demonstrate to Region 11 that we can generate the requisite 10 members for a new unit over and above current members.

Speaking of a "few old grouches", can we get this tread back on track?

Meeting was proposed for a half way point like Santa Rosa. However, I suggested just having a conference call. Faster, easier, cheaper.
Since the prospective members are from AZ, NM, CO & Kansas, looks like if the unit does get formed, we would likely have our meetings via conference calls or possibly on an Airstream Forums private chat room.

There's always Skype. If you haven't used it, Skype works great for multiple callers. The guys use it for the VAP just so you get an idea of the quality of sound.

Brad and company.. I have not used Skype but continue to hear good things about this eBay product. There are also several net conferencing options it will depend on the level of meeting participation for greatest cost effectiveness. Maybe this chapter can help bring the WBCCI into the 21st century.....imagine...virtualstreamin.....

I use Skype to talk to my son in Brazil.
Skype is good and free. However, it requires downloading and installing the application and for best audio echo elimination, a headset is suggested.
I have a feeling that many people will not do this.
Skype had unlimited conferencing however, Wintel platforms has hobbled it to a max. of 4 participants + host.

Not to continue off topic , but the current version of Skype only works on XP. If you have an older version of windows, such as ME you cannot obtain the install program on their web site. But I have it, if anyone does not have XP and wants to install Skype. Just PM me.

Name That Unit...
While at the Rocky Mountain Vintage Airstream Club Rally in Creede, CO, I discussed our proposal to charter a new unit with Tom Collier, the incoming 3d VP of WBCCI. He was supportive but certain that the unit's name must include the name of a state. Sure enough, it's a bylaw:
Names of Units All names will be geographical in nature and will represent a geographical area other than a state. The official name of the Unit must also include the name of the State in which most of its members retain residence, but no Unit shall be assigned any exclusive territory.

Can we name it
After 4 states instead of just one?
But I cannot seem to make a viable word out of the four abbreviations.
How about the NewMCoAzKs

The official name of the unit may include the state, but if you look at the rally listing in the Blue Beret, the names used there do not have the state included.
What happens if the demographics of the unit change over time and "most of the members" now reside in a different state than when the unit began, is it necessary to change the name or does it just apply on formation?

AZCOKANEMUTA - sounds like a Navajo or Hohokam name. All states represented and in alphabetical order. Still too much. How can you abbreviate a set of abbreviations?

Just call it "The NM AIR Unit".
Then put blue numbers on your trailer that correspond to your Airstream Forums number as in:
http://www.airforums.com/forum...ber-25357.html
Ken Levan, you are AIR # 10224...it is on your profile page.

Four Corners Camping Unit
How 'bout the "New Aztahco" unit? Or "Newaz Tahco" unit, which suggests some frightening images.
The rule seems to recognize a difference between the unit name which "will be geographical in nature and will represent a geographical area other than a state" and "The official name of the Unit [which] must also include the name of the State in which most of its members retain residence..."
For the informal unit name, I like "Four Corners Camping Unit", or even briefer just the the "Four Corners Unit", which is geographical in nature and is an area other than a state. The "official name" can include, or add, the state name "New Mexcio" assuming you guys can rally a charter majority from there . So, it officially becomes the "New Mexico Four Corners Camping Unit", a mouthful that appears only in official documents.
The "d/c/a/" [doing camping as] name would be the shorter "Four Corners Camping Unit" (or "Four Corners Unit" for those who prefer meetings ) which succinctly says it all and is rich in possible variations: 4CCU, 4CU, 4(Cx2)U, The Square Campers, The 4Square Campers, the 4SquareU's, etc., etc.
"Southwest" is so vague and large that it becomes geographically nondistinct. "Four Corners" is geographically distinct and connotes the southwest to those in the know yet is unusual enough to rasie a question from those unfamiliar with that intersection which, upon explanation, again connotes the southwest but as a point instead of a blob.
Here's some raw material for designing a Unit Decal:
which seems to capture visually the goals of this proposed new unit.
