With regards to sharing the email, I did receive the following instructions in the email:
"DO NOT FORWARD THIS MESSAGE OR THE ATTACHED LETTER…
…to anyone who you do not know to be of like mind on
the name change issue or anyone who may misuse it,..."
That is a big responsibility on my part! First off I'm not clear on what the "like mind" part is and second, I have no idea if it will be misused once it leaves my hands.
If "wallysundergroundrailroad" is reading this, at least he/she knows that I'm taking the email very seriously (at the moment). But I would like to hear back from you! Please!

But do you really feel you have to respect the stipulations of an anonymous e-mail? You did not elicit responsibility in any regard. Now if it were a ransom note then I could see...
Can you disclose the area of content involved? You became sole keeper of volitile information but don't know from who or why you were selected. "Misused" as in scientists taking good reseach and using that to man's detriment for evil?
The plot thickens. I don't suppose this is a unit murder mystery that we have to come to the rally to solve, is it?

You raise a very good question. Being the responsible and honorable person I like to think I am, my first compulsion is to respect their wishes. I am currently respecting their wishes but I would like some clarification on a couple of the points they made in their email. If they are really serious about the email, then one would think they would at least make an attempt to clarify the points in question. Wouldn't you?

I can tell you that this person is against the name change. I don't know why I was selected. As a unit president, I think it is important for me to remain unbiased. I have tried hard to remain unbiased on this issue and present the facts to my membership base in an unbiased fashion. Perhaps I was selected because they want me to be more biased??? It's anyone's guess at this point.

Yukionna,
I am reading, with great interest, this entire thread while careening south on I-95 at 72 MPH. So, in the interest of public safety, would you please...

If it was sent to you as Unit President your responsibility becomes not as another forum member but as " AN AUTHORITY FIGURE". Boy, you have gone an done it now by reading the email.

It was hard to resist opening an email addressed directly to me from "Wallace Byam" with a subject line of "Unit Presidents".
I even ventured further out on a limb and even opened the attachment.

Now see...I was beginning to think it was you when you didn't chime in earlier to the discussion. Who else can we rule out?

Could someone explain that "live free or die" thing to me? It makes it sound like we have some kind of choice as to whether or not we die. Shouldn't it be "live free, then die"?

Death is not the worst of evils.
State Motto. The words "Live Free or Die," written by General John Stark, July 31, 1809, shall be the official motto of the state.
It was the 1945 Legislature that gave New Hampshire its official motto and emblem, as World War II approached a successful end.
The motto became "Live Free Or Die," as once voiced by General John Stark, the state's most distinguished hero of the Revolutionary War, and the world famous Old Man of the Mountain was voted the official state emblem.
The motto was part of a volunteer toast which General Stark sent to his wartime comrades, in which he declined an invitation to head up a 32nd anniversary reunion of the 1777 Battle of Bennington in Vermont, because of poor health. The toast said in full: "Live Free Or Die; Death Is Not The Worst of Evils." The following year, a similar invitation (also declined) said: "The toast, sir, which you sent us in 1809 will continue to vibrate with unceasing pleasure in our ears, "Live Free Or Die; Death Is Not The Worst Of Evils."

They should have kept the full quote for their motto. The meaning gets a little lost after you see the shorter version on about a million license plates.

Yukionna,
Can I assume that you have tried some of those reverse lookup email searches on the web to try to identify the sender? They don't always work, but they sometimes do work.

With regards to sharing the email, I did receive the following instructions in the email:
"DO NOT FORWARD THIS MESSAGE OR THE ATTACHED LETTER…
…to anyone who you do not know to be of like mind on
the name change issue or anyone who may misuse it,..."
The more I read this the more I'm convenced this is one of those," please don't through me in the Briar Patch", things!!---Pieman

It's us . I cann't believe you would open an attachment from any email and you opened one from someone you didn't know. You have too much time on your hands.

So are you going to share the contents of the email?
Who else received this besides Yuki and 65GT?
