Wally's Angels??

We are exploring volunteering opportunities and recall that the now defunct full timers group helped organize volunteers under the name Wally's Angels.

Any suggestions on finding a suitable place to find volunteer opportunities?

Thanks.

What kind of volunteering are you looking for?

Wildwood,

What kind of volunteering did you have in mind?

Helping the needy, as in Habitat for Humanities?

Helping with organizations doing good works, like schools and hospitals?

Helping with disaster relief, as the Red Cross and Salvation Army?

Incidentally, I believe the Airstream group was called the Airstream Angels, rather than Wally's Angels, but I know nothing more about them.

One thing I know for sure from my own experience is that there is an absolutely inexhaustible demand for free labor!

See you down the road,
Nuvi

There is still a need for volunteers im Biloxi for katrina clean up. They said all you need is gas to get there and a place or a air matress. There are mission stations set up. It was in our local paper last week. Is this what you are looking for? I would like to go down and help myself once we get the tradewind road worthy!

You may be interested in volunteer positions with state and national parks. Often you can serve in maintenance or hosting or in gift shops for a site and utilities during your stay. Some people go south for the winter to volunteer and then up north or in the mountains for cooler stays in the summer. I"ve always thought this would be something I'd like to eventually do. Katrina relief would be terrific since you would be free to go stay in the Airstream while serving.

Wildwood. Good question. I'll keep reading this thread for answers to your question.

I know that there are organizations out there that combine building projects and RV lifestyle. Many of the larger church denominations have programs to build churches or church camps. We are going to do so next spring. Habitat of Humanity also has a similiar program with volunteers (or minimum wage) using their RV's on building site. If you like building things, this is a great need and opportunity.

We are volunteering in Everglades National Park this winter. Gregg will be leading tours and I will be working in the visitors center. We found the positions listed on Volunteer.gov There are still listings on the site in several states and it tells you who to contact for information on the different positions available. Here is a link to a volunteer forum Volunteering Adventures - Forum Powered by eve community that is on the Excapes board. Good luck finding the volunteer position that you are searching for.

We were members of the Airstream Angels. We took classes taught by the Red Cross on disaster relief. It was a very worthwhile project and most of the members worked through their local red cross. Our Tidewater Va Unit 111 has an annual Take Pride in America Rally where we go into a state park here in VA and provide our services. We have been doing this for sometime and those that take part really enjoy the time together. There is pleanty for us all to do and its fun to give back.

I'm not sure what you mean. What services do you provide?

Thanks,

The Red Cross trained the Airstream Angels in the basic set-up of disaster releif. They wanted us to know how the system worked, the chain of command and to get involved with our local Red Cross for job assignment. Not sure if this answers your question.
