Huh? They followed the by laws correctly, it was the applicant that didn't read them before sending his app.

DanB - I think you mixed up my leaving the WBCCI with NHAir getting a refund as he is not yet an AS owner.

My reasons were posted here:

Why I left the WBCCI

We have an Airstream only and 55+ age requirement at Ponderosa Shadows RV park in Show Low, Arizona. We dropped the WBCCI membership requirement last year.

The devil is in the details.

The title to the Airstream trailer/motorhome must be the the owners name before he/she can conclude a sale of one of the lots (currently seven of the 40 are for sale).

One needs to read the requirements for membership in any group carefully to preclude any surprise issues and or disappointments.

Owning an Airstream and a 55+ only sounds like a tough piece of property to sell.

Well, today we picked up our "new to us" 2014 Flying Cloud 30WB! Also, we would like to give a great big THANK YOU to Woodland Travel center in Grand Rapids Michigan. Not only was Chad great to deal with, they even put our numbers on!

Here are my grandparents, the original owners of the 8356 in the early 1970s!

Each Unit is supposed to have its own Constitution as well, which is updated every five years, and which is supposed to be made available to all Unit members. Sometimes the Unit Constitution is made available as a single hard-copy brought to the meetings, sometimes as an electronic file sent out to all members. Depends on the Unit.

Meetings are all supposed to be conducted in accordance with Robert's Rules of Order.

Change occurs with glacial slowness partly because WBCCI is not a democracy. It is a registered non-profit organization, and anyone in business knows that consistency is an important trait for any corporate entity. Change does happen, but it happens in small increments, and it's not because of who is in office. It's due to the rank-and-file members who file motions to have the Constitution and bylaws changed, and who take the time to work out the consequences and costs of those changes and can present their case well enough to get the members— and therefore their Unit delegates— to vote in favor.

Change happens from the bottom in WBCCI, not from the top, so if there's something you don't like about the way the club is run, do your research, come up with an alternative that 's better, and file a motion. Said motion will work its way up the pipe, and will get voted on. If the membership thinks it's a good idea and instructs their delegates to vote affirmative, the change will happen, regardless of what the club's officers personally think about it. Even the International President is still a member of a Unit, and within his Unit he has exactly one vote, just like the rest of us.

But don't ever think that the International Officers are the source of change in the club, or that they're opposed to change. They run the club, but it is the delegates voting— as directed by the members of their Units— on motions submitted by ordinary members, who actually effect change.
I'm not trying to cause a problem here but having been a National VP of a similar International (9000 member) not for profit car club where our leadership actually lead...it is just very, very different from the WBCCI. My comments were not intended to be anything other than a statement of my experience. I am, as stated, a very active member and an officer in the WBCCI. I do have a problem with the leadership style, or in my opinion (and it is an opinion only) lack of leadership. As such, I have decided for me (and me alone) that I would only be involved at the unit level, even though I have significant experience that might be of service to International, I am personally uncomfortable with the corporate "chemistry" of the WBCCI currently. The OP (Original Poster) asked for our reasons/experiences so I gave mine, which I expected to be somewhat different from the others. No offense intended, just my opinion.
I only get to this forum every few weeks or less, so I likely won't post here again, plus I have said what I wanted to say. I continue to be an active member in my unit.

Wbcci issues

We have been on five caravans, including the three longest, and that is enough reason to belong. Airstreams are the single cohering factor for membership; consequently there is a wide variety of interests and personality tastes. It is easy enough for those who do not enjoy the administrative ladder, etc. , including us, to avoid such. Fairness requires me to appreciate the fruits, i.e. Caravans, as being consequential to some structural activities which I assiduously dodge. Thanks to those who foreperson the hoeing of the field.

TO WBCCI
Red number 1811
The Mississippi Unit rallies are great.
As a working person, caravans are not possible for me.

Is it a requirement to have the red letters on your trailer? What is NOVA is that some kind of sub group of WBCCI?

There is no requirement to have the red numbers on your Airstream, but I personally think they look great. When you are at the International Rally you are asked to display your number so that the locators, messenger services and others can identify your RV.

NOVA is one of the 120+ Units of the WBCCI. Units are located all over the United States, Canada and most recently Europe. More information about the club can be found at www.wbcci.org

There is no requirement that you display your red WBCCI number on your trailer, although most do. The only place you have to display your number is at international rallies, where they need it to be able to find your trailer. Some people put their numbers on a separate sheet of material (like plexiglas) and only display them at rallies.

WBCCI is organized into local chapters--callled units. NOVA is "Northern Ohio Virtual Airstreamers" a unit which conducts most of its business on the internet. Units do not have geographic territories. You can join any unit you want as your primary unit and join additional units if you want as affiliate members. Or if you wish you can join as a Member at Large (MAL) without joining any unit.

Hope this helps!
