The NOVA Neighborhood
To All:
I'm starting this thread to answer some question and statements submitted by Freewilly. I am answering his questions inline.
Just for prospective, I would like to invite Freewilly to tells us his background with the WBCCI, his current unit, and his position. That will help everyone understand the questions a little better.
OK, here we go....
"Are there any charter member applicants of Nova that are current members of the WBCCI and what units will they be transferring from? I asked this question a few pages back. The answer I got was, The people or person starting this unit arent even members themselves. That being said, unless something has changed or unless you have a problem with your unit you belong to, or they have a problem with you, why would jump ship?"
My response :--------------------
NOVA was formed by a collection of individuals that chose not to join an existing unit for various reasons. These reasons include the personality, activities, or proximity of the existing units. The founding individuals decided to form their own unit to best define their own experience rather than attempt to change an existing unit. Some have experienced other unit events, some were never invited. Again, please understand that all these Airstreamers are intelligent folks that have made a personal decision about how they want to be a member of the WBCCi. Maybe you should consider respecting this choice?
My personal opinion is, This unit will never happen. It is in a location that already has 4 units in it. No one here wants a virtual experience, they have very active units, and are constantly moving. I am trying to decide the one I want to join again, but they are all very very active making the choice difficult. All the units have joint or co-rallies, so I may join all 4.
My response :--------------------
Our Charter Members are from very diverse locations. Please understand the intent of the "virtual experience". It certainly is not to replace camping or caravanning! The virtual experience is to allow for daily camaraderiemade possible by technology. That's it. No magic. No virtual campfire or other cute stuff. We can exchange views, jokes, and other conversations with as many people as we like instantly. We can plan rallies, discuss business or just "listen". We will be having our second "meeting" of the year this week. How many has your unit had this year? Did I mention that none of this is new? Four Corners and WDCU has been doing the same thing for some time now.
I have found here going to luncheons, that these units are young at heart people, very active. There are some kids, I didnt ask if they were grand kids or there kids. I really dont want to babysit, or have to stop an activity because its nap time. I do think it is good for kids to be around older people, it causes them to act better, and they learn to be polite and respectfull. Sitting at a campfire, I like to relaxe, not watch a kid with his stick in the fire wondering if he is going to get burned, then listen to them cry. I want to stick my own stick in the fire, and I have had plenty of experience not to get burned. Maybe NOVA will have a virtual campfire. For me, I want the real thing...
My response :--------------------
That's great that you have a unit that fits you well. I invite you to come to any event that NOVA has. I think you will find considerate, caring, & fun people much like in your unit.
I'm not sure how to interpret your thoughts on kids. Just know that I wouldn't be having a good time if some kids are running around having fun. I'll try to keep them safe, put I tend to let them run free and enjoy the outside. I learned that skill as a Tiger Cub leader.
In conclusion: --------------------
This weekend my wife and I had the pleasure of spending the day with four other airstreamers. We went to the Ohio RV show. We sat in a 27'FB for a while wishing we were camping. We then pushed through the 12 degree parking lot to go to dinner. If that ain't "the real thing" I don't know what is. This is what you can expect from NOVA.
Oh, we planned it virtually, on those new cellular telephone thingies.....
