I could look it up, but such lookups across 60+ years of paper Membership Directories is a time consuming activity, so I won't do it unless I know what trailer the number is on, because that might reduce thd number of directories I need to look at. I hope this makes sense. No use doing un-necessary work. I would prefer to not assume that is the number on your 1965 Airstream, but if you confirm it is, then I will take the time.

Hi Moksha,
#21036 was first assigned in 1968 (and would first appear in the 1969 WBCCI Membership Directory), which means it would not have been assigned to your 1966 Globetrotter when new. It then becomes a bit of a guess when that number may have been assigned to your Airstream. Since you are in Connecticut, we can look for places where #21036 was assigned that may be near there. Let's see what the Membership Directories show for #21036:
1969-75: George A. & Evelyn Hoffman, Harrisburg, PA, caravans 81 - Western Canada Summer 1971 & 85 Yucatan Winter 1972.
1976-77: Unassigned.
1978-84: George C. & Rita Clark, Waterbury, CT, no caravans.
1985+: Unassigned. (spot checked several, but not all directories)

So what can we tell from this? Almost assuredly, at least one of these two couples owned your Globetrotter. But overall, it seems unlikely (but not impossible) to me that both couples owned it, because the two unassigned years between these two couples typically indicate the two year waiting period before an unused number was randomly reassigned to a new member. This means it may come down to where you bought it to determine who most likely previously owned it:

If you bought it in Connecticut, most likely that the Clarks owned it.

On the other hand, if you bought it in Pennsylvania, most likely the Hoffmans owned it and probably took it on their two caravans.

That's all I got. Enjoy that Globetrotter. Our first Airstream was a 1966 model. That is a great year (but then aren't they all?).

Hi Joe, thank you for the 63 and counting pages of Airstream and WBCCI history. Perhaps you may be able to help with my trailers life stories. I have a good idea of the previous four owners names of my 1969 Caravel, but wondered which one used the number 12190 on it? Also, I do not know anything about my 1996 Excella 25' Classics' history before 2002, perhaps the number 14896 may shed some light on it. (Or is that TOO recent history) Thanks again for all the time you have spent sharing this history.

Hello folks
Looking for info for number 5095, found on a 1960 22'. Probably active in the early sixties, in California.

Hi Broadway,
Two mysteries in one. I better charge double.

1969 Caravel first. #12190 was first assigned in 1964, before your Caravel was built. #12190 has been assigned in WBCCI Membership Directories as follows:
1965-68: Alfred & Roma McCullough, Lowellville, OH, no caravans.
1969: Unassigned.
1970-74: Evelyn & Joan Haug, Cheektowaga, NY (1970), Buffalo, NY (1974), no caravans.
1975-76: Unassigned.
1977-80: Robert & Jo Ann Bronzan, Danville, CA, no caravans.
1981+: Unassigned, but only spot checked a few directories.

My best guess is that the Haug's owned your Caravel. The McCulloughs were too early, and the Bronzans were too far from Ontario. And Buffalo, NY nearly borders Ontario.

1996 Excella. #14896 was first assigned in 1965, but we obviously only need check from 1995 (assuming it could be an early build) onward, but I actually had to go backward to find the last usage of that number. The Membership Directories show no usage of #14896 since 1985:

1985: Simon & Ruth Silverman, High Falls, NY. (did not check prior)
1986-2016: Unassigned.

So, as far as I can tell from the Membership Directories, this number could not have been applied to your 1996 Excella. But there is a way that #14896 could have been applied to your Excella. I'll call it a "one and done" case. Someone could have joined the club and been assigned that number after a given Membership Directory was published and then did not renew the following year, thus never appearing in a Membership Directory. In such a case, there is no ongoing record of their membership.

It is interesting to speculate about this "one and done idea". Since the last people to be assigned this number were from High Falls, NY (not overly far from Ontario), might the hypothetical "one and done" assignees possibly have been their children that joined for one year and asked for their parents number? I only suggest this because a randomly assigned number would typically be in the lower 4 digits, not the 5 digits in the 1990's or 2000's, so a random assignment does not make sense. Anyway, this is pure speculation that we can probably never confirm.

In any case, enjoy your Airstreams.

Hi Globestream,
#5095 was first assigned in 1961, so this could possibly be the original number on a 1960 Airstream. Since you only asked about the 1960's, #5095 was assigned in Membership Directories as follows during that decade and shortly after:
1962-65: Roger & Lois Williams, Yakima, WA, no caravans.
1966-70: Ferd S. & Geneva Wagner, Sunnyside, WA (1966), The Dalles, OR (1970), no caravans.
1971: Unassigned.
1972-74: Ellis & Lois Butcher, Bakersfield, CA, no caravans.
1975-76: Unassigned.
1977: James E. & Ruby Miller, Gissom AFB, IN (did not check further)

Since you seem to think your Airstream was in California, perhaps the Butchers owned it, but possibly a bit later, at least from 1972 to 1974. The possibility exists that the Butcher's owned the 1960 Airstream in the 1960's, but did not decide to join the club until 1971 (thus first appearing in the 1972 Directory), but I have no way to prove or disprove this.

Or maybe the 1960 Airstream came from further north on the West Coast and the Williams and Wagners owned it. #5095 being first assigned in 1961 makes this feasible and because there was no unassigned period between these two couples, and because they lived in the same state, it is likely that the Williams sold their Airstream to the Wagners and allowed them to assume the WBCCI number that was already on the trailer.

It seems somewhat less likely that the Wagners sold that Airstream (whatever it was) to the Butchers, because of one unassigned year in between. But then again, that one year is less than the typical two unassigned years before a random reassignment and Oregon borders California, so the possibility cannot be ruled out.

Because of the distance, I doubt that the Millers owned the same Airstream as any of the prior couples that had been assigned #5095.

That's all I got.

Thanks 66Overlander
That's a ton of info. I think it would have been in the Washington and Oregon area. The guy that owns the trailer now bought it out of Northern California. Bakersfield, maybe, hard to say.
Thanks again.

I posted this question but I don't think I posted it in the right place. I am in the process of purchasing a 1961 Tradewind. I don't have it home yet but here is the photo of the back with the WBCCI number. Can anyone tell what it says? I'd love to know the history of the trailer. If not, I will post again when I get it home when I can make out the number more clearly.

I saw your other post, but since it is time consuming to look up past info based upon the WBCCI number, and because you didn't seem 100% sure (and neither was I from the photo), I want to wait until you are able to confirm it is 6990 before I look up the info, but I promise to do so when you are sure of the number.

The rectangular image below the number is the ghost outline of a decal that says "Wally Byam's Caravan". That was used by WBCCI club members until about 1963. It's presence does not guarantee that the Airstream was on an Airstream caravan, but it opens the possibility.

Guys,
I will eventually get back to you, but am currently too busy to have the time to search my old paper Membership Directories. Doing so does take some time.

I'll try to help some here. I have a 1966 directory. There were no Torrence listed in 1966. The WBCCI number 866 is assigned to Howard and Isabelle Putnam of Alger, Ohio

Hi Sherry,
Finally have time to do the research. WBCCI #23759 was first assigned in 1970, a few years after your 1967 Ambassador was built (and thus first showing up in the 1971 WBCCI Membership Directory). That said, I can only find one couple to which #23579 was ever assigned in the WBCCI Membership Directories over the years (though I only spot checked a few directories after 1985 or so):

1971-1979: Richard & Katherine Willette, Kansas City, MO, no caravans.
1980+: Unassigned.

It thus seems pretty likely that the Willette's owned your 1967 Ambassador in the 1970's. Make some memories of your own in it!
