Anyone have any insights into 4628?
So if I read this thread correctly, the number can only be used at one time but it can be re-used on different trailers and by different people... true?

The number is assigned to the person. If they do not renew then a couple years later the same number can be assigned to someone else.

#1594 was first assigned in 1958. From then thru at least 1964 (didn't check further), it was assigned to Denis & Marie Aymard of San Francisco, CA. The Aymards and very likely this Airstream participated on Caravan 18 - Western Canada Summer 1958.

#4628 was first assigned in 1961. From then thru 1964 (didn't check further), it was assigned to Norville & Colette Kupper of Henderson, NV. The Kuppers are listed for caravan 29 - Western Mexico Winter 1962.
WBCCI numbers are only assigned to one person/couple at a time, but can be reissued to someone new if the assignees do not renew their membership. The number can be put on all Airstreams owned by the assignees during the duration of their membership.

Thank you so much! Now I need to figure out which model this trailer is. Owner says it's a 57, but is has dual axles, and is no longer than 22-24, the badge on the door says Land Yacht, but the badge looks new and probably not original. In my research, there is no dual axle that is that short, and none named land yacht in 57. Any insight would be appreciated!

Thank you again! I was able to get more photos and learned that the wbcci number is 7594, not 1594. I stepped off 24' for the body length. I got the serial number (6936) from the door badge, see photos. Any help in finding the history and the model would be really helpful, as I hope to acquire this trailer but not before learning more about it. Thanks in advance!

My guess would be that it's a '57 CA made Overlander with the Land Yacht package. During this era, Airstreams had three different packages; standard, Land Yacht and International. In this case because of the Land Yacht plaque, yours would have had an on-board battery, air compressor for the water tank and a few other items.
The style of windows also tell me its prior to 1959 and somewhere along the PO line, they've changed the Airstream nameplate on the ends to the newer block style lettering. The art deco style ones are available from Vintage Trailer Supply if you'd like to change them back. The factory changed them sometime during the early 1960 model year.
Check out RJ's vintage archives for more info:

Good luck on whatever you decide to do.

This Airstream is a bit of a mystery. The serial # suggests it is a late 1957 or early 1958 California built 26' Overlander. The windows are typical of a 1956 or 1957 California build. The long streetside drip cap over the windows is typical of 1958. The wheel well shape is 1959 to 1961. The Land Yacht plaque is about 1959/60. And as noted already the Airstream plaques are typical of about 1960+. My best guess is late 57/early 58 that someone had modified (wheel well shape & badging) to look a few years newer.

#7594 is also more of a challenge. This number was first assigned in 1962, so not when the trailer was first made. What's more, by 1970 it had been assigned to at least three different members, and no way to tell who may have owned the Airstream. In any case, the first assignees were Lee & Phyllis Williamson of Trenton, Nebraska from 1962 thru 1965. The Williamsons were listed for caravan 32 - Eastern Mexico Winter 1963. In 1966 #7594 had been reassigned to someone from California. By 1970 it was assigned to someone from Arkansas. Unlikely that all owned the same Airstream. Not sure which one may of these or someone even later may have owned this Airstream. That's the best I can do.

Ghost Numbers
Hi folks:
I posted this recently but because I am a newbie, probably in the wrong place.
So I thought that I would try again. We just purchased a 1968 Globetrotter that has 2 sets of ghost numbers on it. The first set is 5409. No doubt because they are half there. The second set is 68. These numbers are spaced out but don't appear to have anything between them.
I know that the AS was in Connecticut in 2000 and who had it. There is a title that said it came from Florida.
Being the historian that I am, I would love to know the history of these numbers and in fact who might have owned our AS. It appears to have been bought from C.J. Stoll because his dealer plate is attached.
Oh and I did see in the first WBCCI directory that was published and online who owned #68. I know that number could have been reissued.
Thanks,
Layback

Not to come across as a "Party Popper", We need to be aware, & respectful of individual's privacy when talking & sharing previous owner's personal info..Especially on the internet..

I have a 1959 Overlander with very clear #2828 stickers on it. I read about a previous person (not owner) in this thread who has a 76 with the same numbers. I would love the history on my trailer. Obviously, prior to '76 is what I'm looking for.
My husband was able to see today that there are scratches from where there was (what we have since deduced) a Wally Byam's plaque. I'm dying to know if there are records of my trailer having gone on a Caravan.
We haven't found any other stickers..or evidence of old stickers.
Also, where would the Overlander name plate have been? I don't see a place where rivets were removed. The Overlander plate is missing.
Thanks so much in advance!
Rachael
