Hi HCF, I don't have the time to do more research tonight, but it would help to know the year (and model) of the Airstream that #21307 is on. This number was first assigned in 1968.

Being that you do not have a vintage Airstream bearing the number 8487, I won't do a full lookup (it is time consuming looking thru old paper WBCCI Membership Directories), but I can tell you that #8487 was first assigned in 1963 to Frank & Evelyn Swartzel of Oregonia, OH. They remained in the club thru 1972, but did not participate on any recorded caravans. I did not check any further. Sorry. I am certain that this number has been reassigned, possibly a few times, since then and before it was recently reassigned to you.

Thank you overlander!

Smile Thank you, Joe.

Thank you so much, Joe! I can't imagine the amount of time and effort you put in to do this for so many people, and I really appreciate it.

Hopefully our paths will cross one day - and I've already been checking out the WBCCI. I even read the minutes of the last International meeting in Tucson. Sounded like a road trip, to me! I just need to decide which Michigan chapter to hook up with.

Thanks again for the information.

-Tom

1958 Flying Cloud #12340

Hi Joe,

We are new to all of this and are hoping to find information about our Flying Cloud with the number 12340. We just bought this trailer, and wonder if we can register it with the same number. Any information will be very helpful.

Thank you

Hi Airspry,
As I have noted many times before, in the thread, it helps to know the year of the Airstream that the number is on before I do any research, because that helps limit the number of old paper Membership Directories that have to be searched by hand. Provide that info and I will look things up when I get some time (won't be today). Sorry, but I can't let this turn into a full time job. I hope you understand.

Hi Joe,

I completely understand. We appreciate your help and can be very patient.

As for the year and model. That is not as simple as I would think it should be. The plate on the trailer says that it is a Flying Cloud (22'). The Vin/Serial number is 0-3459. It has 13-panel endcaps which I have been told were only made until mid-1957. The title says 1959. The street side is almost completely windows. If this search is too complicated, that's ok.

. . .

The serial number confirms that you have a 1957 22' Flying Cloud made in Ohio and the serial number format does not even match the 1959 Airstream serial number format. This is not the first time I have seen an Airstream titled as some year other than it actually is.

Perhaps if you print off some documentation from the internet and go to the appropriate agency in your state you can get that corrected. I got the serial number on one of my Airstreams corrected by showing them that the "O" on the title I got with the trailer should be a "D" to match the serial number plate on the trailer. I wanted the title to match the serial number on the trailer just in case there was ever an issue.

Of course, if your title has the serial number correct, but only the year wrong, that would seem less important to get fixed. You will always know what it actually is.

Now regarding the WBCCI number 12340. This number was not used in 1957 when your Flying Cloud was new, so it was applied some time later. In fact, 12340 was first assigned in 1965 and thus first appears in the 1966 Membership Directory. Here is how that number has been assigned over the years:
1966-76: Archy Yaple, Winsted, CT (1966 & 1974-76)., c/o NATO, Sarasota, FL (1967-73), no caravans.
1977-78: Unassigned.
1979-90: Clarence M. Jennings, Glen Rock, PA (1979), Dade City, FL (1980-90), no caravans.
1991-Current: Unassigned (but only spot checked a few directories).

So what can we tell from this? It appears that your Flying Cloud was owned by a single man when in WBCCI, we just cannot be 100% certain which one. Given the time and distance between them, it appears that #12340 was just randomly reassigned in 1979, so it is unlikely that both Mr. Yaple and Mr. Jennings owned your Flying Cloud.

Which of them owned it becomes harder to guess. If you got it in/near CT then My. Yaple would seem more likely. If you got it in/near PA, then Mr. Jennings would seem more likely. If you got it in/near FL or in/near UT, then it is harder to guess, but I'll give a slight nod to Mr. Yaple for two reasons:
1. A 1957 Flying Cloud was "less old" during his time in the club.
2. Mr. Jennings Dade City address would have been in the Travelers Rest Airstream Park and it just seems to me that it may have been desirable to have a newer and larger Airstream parked permanently, or semi-permanently in that park (but this does not rule the possibility that Mr. Jennings had a 1957 22' Flying Cloud).

In the end, the answer may come down to evidence on the trailer, like a decal or emblem from a dealer in/near CT or PA or names on some documentation you may have received with the trailer.

I cannot officially answer if you can get #12340 assigned if you join WBCCI, but that number was unassigned in the last Membership Directory and is unlikely to have been assigned since it was published. Just ask for the number when applying for membership and the office will check to confirm 12340 is still available. I'll bet it will be. It's great to keep old WBCCI numbers on old Airstreams.

That's all I got. Enjoy your 1957 Flying Cloud!

Joe,

Thank you so much for all of the information. It is amazing! As we work on our trailer, I will look carefully at the remains on the decals and other identifying information. Perhaps, there will be a clue there. It is great to have this information before we strip everything off to clean and shine the outside.

In the meantime, I will check to see if the number is still available. It would be great to bring it back to this old girl. It is clear from all the layers of patches and flooring that she has seen a lot in her life.

Thank you again for taking the time to do this research.

Ariel

Old number 15720

Old number 15720. I would have said #15720 but someone might think it was hash tag......whatever the heck that is! Hash tag sounds to me like a game that Cheech & Chong might have played growing up as children. Anyhow this is a 1969 Caravel, don't need any information I just saw that there hadn't been a picture added to this thread for awhile, and By Golly I like pictures.

Old number search

Hi folks,

Wondered if anyone would be kind enough to search a number for me please? Currently restoring a 66 OL here in the UK, and the ghost number is 18935. Also, is 1725 taken by anyone? Thanks in advance,

Neil

1972 Sovereign

Just bought this 1972 Sovereign Airstream. 1st time owner. It has ghost numbers of 8800. Has a Bradenton Fl dealership info by the door, I bought it from a lady in Pittsburgh PA. I was wondering if you have any info on this unit. This is a rescue and restore project. Could I use this numbers? Thanks Johnny

I'm interested in the history of our airstream. The WBCCI number is 26567. The door has Tasha <3 Larry spray painted on the inside of the door. We have a 73 Sovereign Land Yacht. It also has "Scholfields Boulevard Trailers, Wichita, KS" on the back.

I think it would be cool if the number was still available....

Remember the numbers are assigned to the owners and not the trailer. Calling wbcci may tell you if the numbers are currently being used. The expert here will look up the info for you, he volunteers his efforts so have patients.
