George and Theresa Ammom from Tacoma, Washington are listed in my 1974 Directory as having that number. No caravans listed.

8160 in my 1967 Directory was issued to Allen and Rose Gidley from Owosso, MI. We do not know what model Airstream they had that number on or whether the Airstream you have was owned by them as these numbers are reissued and someone else could have put that number on it. Or Allen could have sold his trailer to someone in CA.

I think my Safari came from somewhere in Oregon. But maybe registered in Washington State.

#16240 was first assigned in 1966 and the first directory I have that lists that number is 1968 (membership as of 12/31/1967) at which time it was assigned to the Ammons as Dwight noted. The Ammons are last listed in the 1987 Directory, still in Tacoma, WA, no caravans. I spot checked a few later Membership Directories and did not see that #16240 was ever reassigned (although it could have been for a short time).

By the 1980s most number reassigns to new members were using 4 digit numbers, so I think it likely that the Ammons owned your 1970 Airstream at some point in time. They would have had an earlier Airstream when they joined, but could have upgraded to a new (or newer) Airstream in or after 1970. We have no way of determining those details, however.

Enjoy your Airstream!

My wife and I have dreamed of Airstreams for years and finally took a plunge (into the shallow end).
We picked up a 1974 31' mid bath Soveriegn.
She's been ridden hard and put away wet MANY times.
But we got her for a decent price (I think, but rennovations/repairs are getting expensive!)

We figured it was better to start and learn on a realtively inexpensive Airstream. The shell has a few dents, and the top front has been dented and straightened. Probably a low tree or garage.

She looked water tite until the first rain.... This is going to be more work than I thought!!!!

Back on subject: There are two sets of numbers visible.

12726
and
8241

I would love to get any history that is available.
I know the owner before me was from Oklahama. But at 38 years old, I think she has been around the block more than once!!

Any help would be greatly appreciated! As is the: Technical Forum!

Now back to resealing those holding tank vents....

Thanks again, Glenn

12726 in the 1977 directory is listed to Martin from Oklahoma City.
8241 in 1977 was listed to Philips from Kingfisher Ok. Neither of these people might have owned your trailer as the numbers could have been put on much later.

Thanks DwightDI. Not sure what the etiquette is on the board.
But could you PM any info you have on Martin, or Phillips.
I'd love to contact them, preferably via Email.
It looks as though this Airstream never strayed far from home. Her last registered owner was also from Oklahoma.

Thanks for your input!!

Glenn

WBCCI number

1977 was 35 years ago. The average age of WBCCI members is about 60. That would make the Philips about 95 and likely no longer alive. In 1977, we barely had personal computers. It wasn't until 1993 that many of us got email addresses. 2007 was the first year WBCCI published email addresses.

In the 2007 directory 8241 is now listed to Walter & Paula Hammerick from Wilton, ME with no e-mail. 12726 was unassigned in 2007.

You can google the names you do have and get descendants' names from obituaries, all online. That worked for me; I'm now in contact with the grandson of the original owner of a '59 who has contacted other relatives trying to get copies of photos, documents, etc, to send me. Persevere!

Landshark... That is exactly what I plan on doing!!!

Thanks again for all the help, Dwight
And you are absloutely right, VERY few people even knew what email was in 1974.
The only real networks were at DARPA.
Email had only been in existence since 1971!!

And I should have given credit where it is due: JOE found the obits for me and I carried on from there! Thanks, Joe!

BTW, Joe, I now have the title for the '59, after 1) being threatened with arrest for theft and 2) having a 30-day hold put on the titling process by a disgruntled wannabe purchaser of the trailer. I didn't know he even existed, but wrote my check a day before he showed up, so ownership was never really in doubt except in his mind. All's well that ends well.

Glad I could help. Glad you were able to make contact with family members. Thanks for doing your part to rescue an Airstream that was on the 1960 European Caravan. We need to identify and save more Airstreams with similar travel histories before they rot away or all evidence is polished off of them.

membership records

1634 is registed to Rob and Pearl Nolan from Shreveport, LA from 1976 to 1982
1416 was registed to Frank and Virginia Harris from 1976 to 1982. They were life members.
4749 is listed in my 1981 directory as being registed to John and Margareta Sellers for Rockville, MD. That number was not used in 1976.
