My 1985 Limited was once owned by member number 50. As I understand it he may have been a past president. I have the past president sticker on the window.
Thanks..Mark (current owner)

Wbcci 50
In 1989 , Jack and Kay Oakley had that number. They were from Sydney, OH but I do not show that they were ever International presidents. It is possible they were just a Unit president and got a past president sticker then. I have two of them on our units for myself, 1998, and my wife, 2008.

My 1975 Trade Wind has number 6529 on the front and back. Does this tell anything about the unit or just who it was registered to way back when?

WBCCI numbers
The WBCCI number is rented from the International each year. Without knowledge of when the number was placed on the unit, we can not tell which person do it. If it was placed on a new unit, then we can assume the people who owned that number that year were the owners.

In the Quad City Times newspaper there is an insert with local activities. The issue on 6/21/12 there is a picture of a singing group with an old AS with the number 22408. I looked in the 09 and 12 WBCCI but this number is not listed. Was wondering the background on this unit.

My 1970 directory lists that number to a couple in Lyndonville VT.
In my 1982 directory it is listed to a member in Cuyahoga Falls OH.

If you mean WBCCI number 17, that number is currently unassigned. Numbers below 100 have been controlled by Airstream (not the club) since probably the late 1960's or early 1970's.
#17 would have first been assigned on several caravans starting in 1951 before the club was formed in 1955.
When the club was formed, whoever had a number on any of the 5 caravans before the club was formed got to keep that number, meaning that in the early days there could be multiple people with the same number.
In the 1955 Directory, #17 is assigned to three couples:
- Felix and Delia Leach of Gainsveille, TX, caravan 3 - Mexico East Coast Winter 1954
- Grover and Gertrude Smith, Jacksonville, IL, Caravan 1 - Central America Winter 1951-52.
- Mark and Mayme Smith, Jacksonville, IL, Caravans 1 & 5 - Mexico West Coast Winter 1955.
Participants on these early caravans did not have to have Airstreams and those listed in the 1955 Directory included those that did not own Airstreams, although they are not identified as such. The Directory from 1957 onward removed those that did not own Airstream (i.e. it was restricted to Airstream owners only). The early Directories were more a list of caravan participants than of club members.
Spot checking a few random directories going forward, I see #17 assigned as follows:
- 1960 - No one listed
- 1966 & 67 - Leach (but no other information)
- 1968, 1971, 1979 - Felix and Delia Leach - Gainesville TX, caravan 3, listed as a caravanner, but not a club member.
- 1980+ No one listed (spot checked several years) Caravanners, but not club members were dropped after 1979.
What can we tell from this?:
- Likely the Smiths did NOT own an Airstream.
- Whoever had #17 on caravans 2 & 4 may or may not have had an Airstream, but chose not to join the club. I assume #17 was used on caravans 2 & 4, but cannot prove it.
- Possibly the Leachs did not own an airstream because they are not listed in 1960 (speculation - maybe they just did not renew their membership that year).
- If #2 is true, perhaps the Leachs bought an Airstream after 1960 and were reinstated into the club (this is pure speculation).
- If anyone ever had #17 on an Airstream it seems likely that it was the Leaches, although I cannot rule out the possibility that someone else had this number for a short time after 1980, because I did not check every year.
- If the Leachs had an Airstream, there are no records of what it was. It might have been 1954 or earlier if they had an Airstream on caravan 3, or it could have been a 1960's Airstream if they bought one later.
That's all I got.

OK I've got one. I recently bought a 59 Tradewind which is showing the ghost numbers and a ghost W.B.Caravan decal. The numbers were 1828. The Tradewind was made in JC. So who owned it back in 59-60 something? And what Caravan might this trailer have been on?
Thanks
Ben

WBCC #1828
Herbert & Marjorie Rittgers of Des Moines, Iowa
They went of the 1958 Mexican Caravan (but probably not in this trailer)

Hi,
I have a 1974 31' International with ghost numbers 22755 on it. Is there any reference in the registry for this number? Is it available to purchase?
Thanks

That number is likely available. You need to call the lady at Jackson Center who will take care of it for you. Her number is 937-596-5211. She will either take you credit card number (if you want to sign up as a Member At Large) but I think you would be better off having her reserve the number for you. You would then contact themembership chairman or Treasurer of the local unit (found on the internet at WBCCI.org) and send them a check.

This is all enlightening.
We just got a '76 Overlander, in pretty much original condition - and well-cared-for and maintained. Vintage-wise, we even have the original Airstream-tagged mattress covers and the original "laundry bag" that snaps into the hamper behind the toilet. The 'ghost' numbers are two -- one over the other -- it appears the older of the two is 1054 and then another that is 12681. There is also the remnants of the circular WBCCI logo, too.
We are the 4th (or maybe 5th) owners, I think, and the trailer I believe was purchased in Boise, Idaho and then has had at least 3 Montana owners.
Any idea about those numbers, their history and availability today?

173,297 That is too many digits. The numbers only got up to around 28,000. Look closely again. There may be more than a couple different numbers that have been on the trailer.

1057 was assigned to Stark in my 1967 directory. We can not tell which year 12681 was placed on your trailer and therefore can not identify the owner. 12681 has been assigned to many couples over the years starting in 1965.

Vintage Airstream Forum seems to be offering historical information on the WBCCI numbers.

You need to be a member of VAC to access the Forum section. There is not much activity over there. The last posting was 6 months ago. They have a total of 8 inquiries and 75 total posts. I am a VAC member but most people come to AirForums for their information.

1057
WBCC #1057 was not listed in the 1957 or 1958 Direcories. It first appears in the 1960 Directory assigned to Bruce & Agnes Stark of Riverhead. L.I. NY.
It is interesting that 1058 is assigned to Douglas & Diane Stark also of Riverhead, L.I. NY.
They were both still members in the 1966 & 1967 Directories.
In 1973 #1057 was assigned to Frank & Milly Deveer of Tallahassee, FL
