Yeah, I see what you mean. I didn't make that out as a fez, but I can see how it could be.

Yes Richard you are correct, a Mason.
Im starting to think I'll never find this trailor again. I do notice all the Airstreams i see have these numbers on the back, so I assumed they would all be trackable, But now everyone is saying they corelate to clubs or groups.
I want to find it, buy it, bring it back to the family!! Crazy idea, ok, but its what I want to do....

Since trying to search the WBCCI number, which may or not work, you might try the Dept. of Motor Vehicles in the state your grandfather had it registered originally. They could provide you the serial number and armed with that, you may be able to trace it various states.
Unless the AIRSTREAM nameplates were updated which is unlikely, this is not a 1959 trailer because in 1960, the lettering went to the block style, like the ones in the above photo, and not the prior Art Deco style.
Good luck with your search. The info is out there.

In a closer look at the supplied photo, it IS a CA built trailer with the shower vent pipe coming up through the bathroom countertop and out the roof on the curbside center. The tub is curbside. The other vent pipe is for a black tank under the streetside toilet.
I say this is a '60 Overlander or TradeWind. I think it unlikely to be an Overlander with the single axle so my vote is for a TradeWind and if so, I'd like to be able to add it to my Early TradeWind registry if it ever surfaces. Heck, I may already have it listed. Won't be able to tell until the serial number is determined. Best of luck on your research.

I don't believe the bumper is that easy of an identifier. There appear to be factory differences and differences depending upon trailer length, model, and trim level. It seems the flat bumper may have been used longer at the California factory.
I believe there were a few years that the basic flat bumper was used on lower trim levels (base and maybe Land Yacht), while the fancier "guard rail" contoured bumper was used on the "International" trim level.
I know I have seen 1960 24' and maybe 26' Airstreams with the flat bumper after which these more expensive Airstreams may have only used the contoured bumper.
I have seen some California 19' and 22' Airstreams as late as 1962 that have the flat bumper, but after that they seem to have converted to the contoured bumper.
Bambi's and Bambi II's seem to have used the flat bumper through 1964.
That said, since this appears to be a California built 1959-61 22' Safari Twin or 24' Tradewind, a flat bumper may be correct up thru 1960 or even 1961. I cannot rule out the possibility that at least some 1961 California 24' footers didn't have the flat bumper on at least lower trim levels.
As for eventually finding this trailer, the rear bumper bracing around the spare tire mount on this trailer is different than any others I have seen (although that does not mean there weren't any others, just that Airstream with rear mounted spares usually looked somewhat different), so that may be the easiest way to identify it if a potential candidate trailer is spotted, since the club did not retain serial number records.

Hello Joe,
I am new owner of a 1966 Airstream Overlander 26' and there were 2 numbers on it.
Could you please provide me details for those 2 numbers?
They are 16872 and 21932.
This will help me out greatly.

Hi, we just got our new airstream and our number is 1010. Obviously an old number being reused. Can you see if you can find out who had it before us? thanks!

1010
Number 1010 first appears in the 1957 Directory issued to:
Louis & Harriett Diegoli
Somerville, Mass
They still had this number in 1973

I am going to voice my displeasure with this thread. I put a post on here 2 weeks ago asking for assistance with identifying a WBCCI number 21392 and the last person that number was registed to and nobody has responded with that information. Since my post, 2 other members have posted requests for WBCCI numbers and they received responses.
Can someone please help me identify who the last registered person was to WBCCI number 21392?

Not all members keep their old directories. A few of us do. I did not bring my collection to Florida this winter and some others that usually take our time to respond may have also been on the road.

My interest in Airstream is focused on the 1950's & early 1960's models. I have our directories from 1957 to 1966 (and a few after that). I try to respond to requests for numbers lower than 4000, as they would have been originally assigned prior to 1960.
Number 21329 belonged to Raymond & Mildred Swires of Ft. Myers, FL in 1973

My 1970 directory lists the number to William & Vera Trepohl with a mail forwarding address in Sarasota FL
My 1984 directory lists the number to George & Louise Rockwell of Heavener OK
