Last Saturday on the way home from a vacation we were traveling east on Hwy 17 in Ontario and passed 30 Airstreams (24 trailers and 6 MH's) going the other way over a period of about 2 hours. Passing the first was a nice surprise. When we saw the 2nd one we thought it unusual. When the third one passed we knew something was up. It turns out we were passing the second group of three groups of Airstreams (35 units each) participating in the WBCCI 50th Anniversary Caravan to eastern Canada. For those that may not know, these caravans commemerate the 50th anniversary of the founding of WBCCI, which occurred on the 1955
caravan to Eastern Canada, which was led (part way) by Wally himself. We must have missed the first few units before we got on Hwy 17, but we saw trailers from a mid-60's 19' Globtrotter up to current 34' Classics, and MH's from an '80's Classic up to the current models - a nice variety, but I gotta admit the trailers are easier to spot.
At one point we stopped by the side of the road to have lunch and a couple of the units participating in the caravan stopped by and chatted for a while. It sounds like that caravan will be a blast, but at 7 weeks in length, just a distant dream for us workin' folks.
Anyway, it was nice to end our vacation seeing other enjoying their Airstreams.
