Please don't judge the club by that guide. 99.5% of that guide has been put together without any input or help from the units. It's nearly 100% information that we have been able to scout on the Internet, or from our annual directory.
Some past IBT officers had a desire to see that entire guide incorporated into the WBCCI.org website -- so while we waited for word on whether that would happen or not -- we held off on updating and expanding it (duplication of efforts).
Well it's likely at this point that the IBT isn't interested in our efforts -- simply because its coming from SaveWally.org. We've waited nearly 3 months for a consensus and go ahead and the trail has gone cold. Honestly -- we expected as much -- but there was hope. We're not waiting anymore -- most of what this club does is wait -- we're moving forward.
The guide will consist of a Guide to Units; the entire club '08 activity schedule by date, and then again by state/date. We'll add sections on special events rallies; international numbered caravans; and the last part -- a complete guide to WBCCI officers club-wide -- although that last part will require WBCCI member registration for access. It will also be the most difficult section to complete. 80+ percent of the guide will be useful to both members and prospective members. ~20% to members only.
I hate to hi-jack this thread so mods are more than welcome to split this off and I'll close.
If you can't find a unit near you that's of interest -- post a message here, at SaveWally.org/forums, and wbcci.org/forums that you've got an AS, you're looking for others in your area that might like to get together. Find 4, 6, 10, or 12 and hold a rally. If it goes well, hold another one. From that point contact your Region Prez and ask for what it takes to get a temporary charter and create a piece of WBCCI history for yourselves. 4CU did it -- Heart of Texas did it -- there should be many more areas and many more new charters coming online over the next few years.
Many of the units that are in trouble are in trouble because they didn't take constant recruiting seriously enough. So they had a great unit with a great group of friends and now there's a generation gap between those looking to sign-up and those that are now 20, 30, and 40 year members. Unfortunately many of those units will phase out because of the exact situation you're coming across. Take the plunge and look into starting something new. Just don't forget to recruit -- every single year -- unit longevity depends on it.
In Perry we met some folks from the Everglades unit. They were afraid their unit would disband sooner than later. They're all getting old, travel less, and when a younger couple/family comes along they get generation shock. It's what happens -- but I'm sure there are many AS owners near you, internet savvy or not, that would love to camp in a state park surrounded by AS's. Go get 'em!
