First thing you need is 10+ people who are willing to commit to the new unit. Once you do that, contact your region (12) president, you will need his support. There is alot of paperwork that needs to be submitted when you go for a charter. You need a constitution, bylaws, officers and rallies. The support of the region president is very important. He will be the one that will issue your provisional charter and present the motion to the board for a full charter. Good luck!

Two motorhomes...Two memberships...Only six to go.

I do wonder if any others are interested in a So Cal Unit aimed at folks with jobs and a desire to camp and have fun.

Sounds like fun...

Don't worry.. Some other fools will volunteer to be Unit Greeter or Unit IP Attorney or Unit SpudGunner, sharing the loads of "managing" things...

Big Dee and I talked about it at prior Russian River event, and it may be worth discussing (BRIEFLY) at Casini Ranch...

Takes 10 people willing to pay WBCCI dues, plus unit dues to be unit member, which can be as little as $1 for unit that does things electronically..

Region 12 Pres is Jim Elmlinger, and he might be open to idea, though he is now taking heat from Forum members for his role in Motorhome issues... He is an intelligent and reasonable person who just happens to enjoy motorhoming and Airstreaming... Might support if it meant more people trying region events like Blythe Rally in February, and Region Rally in Las Vegas in October...

As long as territory within CA, it need not be tied to limited geography.. Could be called the "MidCal Unit" for example, to include territory from just north of Imperial Beach to Yreka... Avoids conflict over borders between northern and southern California.. Or maybe "CalCoast" Unit, for those of us who enjoy a trip to the beach...

From there, it's newsletters, calendars, and a series of Rally Formats ranging from "non-events" up to "Official Rallies", like Casini Ranch... Maybe we'd have to draw electronic straws and let short straw attend International Rallies in July in places like north Georgia.. Though not sure we'd have to be represented there... Other busines could be handled by e-mails...

But for the Georgia thing, I'd be in... I think Four Corners Unit and Washington DC Unit would be good role models..

Region 12 covers both California and Nevada, I believe that the official name must include the state and the rest of the name some geographical reference, which could include both or either states.

Whatever name is chosen, don't get hung up on the technicalities.

Good Luck,

Bill

Here is some information from Dona Garner, membership chairman, about forming a new unit. BTW, the blue book can be downloaded from the WBCCI web site.

The amendment that set the number to form or maintain a Unit at 10 was passed with part of the rationale being a smaller number of "like minded or activity minded" members be required to start a new and, hopefully, successful Unit. In some cases these will be splinter groups from established Units. Sometimes these will be in areas where we have no Units and many miles in between members.

The Regions are one of the key players in this formation. The Region issues a Provisional Charter after talking to Jackson Center and keeping the IBT Executive Committee or at least the International President informed. Those that want to form a new Unit need to have Officers, a Constitution (just modifying the suggested one in the Blue Book to meet their needs is a start) and a program of activities (using the Unit Planning Guide can help). The Constitution and By Laws Committee needs to review their Constitution to be sure that there are no conflicts with the WBCCI Constitution. Any recommendations they make need to be addressed. The Region Officers should be working with all the parties involved to be sure the process keeps moving forward. All these things take time. Jackson Center can be very helpful. The Charter is then approved by the IBT and issued.

I hope that this makes the process more understandable.

Dona

Let's do it.

A brief planning meeting at Casini would work (with refreshments of course).

And those who aren't present can participate on line or by phone.

I know, I thought it, I just didn't want to put it into print for fear it may happen if he hasn't already thought of it. Suddenly I'm beginning to feel that I'll be getting a new assignment soon...
