Nerves of steel

I had been putting off the job of installing my new WBCCI red numbers for a while. Since we're on a little weekend camping trip I brought my ladder, bucket, rags, yardstick and pencil.

What a chore! I'm just glad all eight numbers made it mostly intact. I had the misfortune of having both a six and a nine in my number. Those were a royal pain and one of the sixes got a bit of a fold on it.

Glad to have it done and proud to decorate our new toy!

I put mine on the rear window because the dealer Can-AM in London Canada said

Good for you! We put it off for a couple of years after joining, but now we are so glad to be sporting those red numbers!

I started out with that intention but in the end decided "screw it" it won't effect resale since they are so iconic to Airstream.

I think it adds to the value. As you notice on this forum, everyone that buys a used trailer with numbers wants to know it's history, It's like those red numbers mean the Airstream has a legacy and went on adventures.
Good job on the install, it does take time and care.

It took us 7 years to put our numbers up. They sent us three different shades of red and two different fonts. The 4 was over half an inch shorter than the other numbers. So we went out and had some custom made.

All I can say is "be glad you don't have a 5" and welcome to the club. It only took me a year to get around to it.

Still thinking about those, have not seen many Airstreams sporting those and they appeared to more bumper sticket material that won't come off without a mess.

xo1...A few of us had an award company or t-shirt shop create a one-piece vinyl carrier with our numbers. I scanned the ones WBCCI sent, laid them up full size in Illustrator and then sent the PDF to the store. The number came back in consistent red, reversed on the carrier. I peeled the back coat and laid them on a light pencil line. Perfect!

I would not bother

WBCCI is on a slippery slope, I would not bother to put the numbers on.

Have them and proud of them. Good conversation piece. Also, easy way to find out who's going the way you just came going down the highway.

I guess we should get around to putting some on, third Airstream though. Not our favorite job, but it is on the list. Maybe on plexiglass like we have seen. Then we can take it with us if we get another 'stream.

If you do it that way, you can do the same with the Wally sticker, making one big adhesive panel with Wally sticker and all. I only see one problem; if you ever remove your numbers, you don't leave "ghost" numbers for the next owner to wonder about, as you would if each digit was applied individually.

I belong to both WBCCI and Air Forum and proud of both. Should go with the RED or BLUE? ( I have the same number for both.) Problem solved; I went with the good old RED, WHITE and BLUE in the flag motif. I had them done at the local sign shop. And yes, I put them on the Aluminum.
I'm also TAC, but put white numbers on the windows.
