Great post....as a MAL, I can now tell which units I would never join...yes units are no longer on my short list. Thank you to those that worked so hard to keep the spirit alive..GO AIRSTREAM.

Please give consideration to the 4CU when it is time to renew. You will be a voting member of the club and we will have a couple of rallies that would be close enough for you to attend. Our membership fees are $14 less then being a MAL.

Pay less, get more, have fun!

Happy Days!

Now I'll re-up for next year. I hope this vote puts an end to the silly idea of SOB's in an aluminum TT club. Thanks to all who worked and took the time to vote for this very important item.

The SOB's can attend our buddy rallies.

We must be gracious winners...it is not just about SOB's

It is about those WBCCI members who presently own MOHO's and when it comes time for them to replace with "new" they will not have an airstream MOHO product to purchase.

Perhaps a Sprinter pulling a 34'er would pass as an acceptable substitution

One thing is for sure the used market will pick up real quick..... for those wanting to move from the TT style to the MOHO style

sorry to be thick but I have no idea what all this is about, being a new member; could someone explain what the issue actually is?

lots of older, well-monied members, feeling that a trailer no longer fits their lifestyle, have taken to buying Airstream motorhomes...they also seem to like to continually upgrade to brand-spankin-new one's, too.
Airstream recently announced that they will no longer be manufacturing motorhomes. If people in this demographic don't have a new MH to buy, they'll have to leave the club, as membership requires ownership of an airstream product.
So it was proposed by the International Board of Trustees that we allow anyone with a "Four Winds" motorhome to join the club...which would allow members in this demographic to stay on as members, and prevent a loss of this membership, and allow them to buy a brand new motorhome as often as they see fit.
this had to be voted on by club members at the unit level, which send representative delegates to the international rally, where the votes were presented and tallied earlier today.

It would be easier, (and it has been suggested before), that these members can simply go out and buy the biggest, baddest monster MoHo they can find...and pull a vintage bambi (or perhaps, a new base camp), benind it to all the rallies.

but seriously, folks. I think someone should immediately propose a "grandfathering" clause, that will allow these folks to stay on, without changing the "marquis" status of the airstreamer's club.

It may take more than I can post here to realy explan what was going on but Here is a try.

The officers of the club, a very small minority and many of whom are full timers, were looking for a way to upgrade thier rigs. Many of them have Airstream motor homes and since Airstream no longer makes a motorhome model they were trying to inject the use of Mandalay motorhomes into the club.

The premius presented was that 20% of the club own motorhomes and without a future vehical available that membership would leave the club and take with it the workforce.

Time will now test that 20% number and the Family Motor Coach may get an influx of membership. Neither will greatly effect the overall club.

I'm anxious to see 1m1v (one member one vote) go ahead and the business meetings be divorced from rallies like church and state. We can do this more efficiently online and by mail and if needed proxy.

Our numbers may dwindle and that is the challenge to update the WBCCI and make it fun for new and young. But it reamins a 52 year old club and that is always worth saving. Perhaps we need to pull in our spending belts a notch. We have avid Airstreamers who would never consider leaving because we are an Airstream club. That has been preserved. It is not about friends, because friends will stay with you but it is about the club identity.

Having listened to 95% of the meeting I am somewhat suprised with the overwelming vote against the motion that more deligates did not support the election of Pete Danials as 3rd VP. New blood was offered and pasted over.

Maybe someone can clarify for me if Mr Danials ran from the floor.

I am concerned that our unit voted 100% to include the SOB's in the club. Somehow, I think that the instructions on voting were not clear. It doesn't matter to me, well it does, but the amendment did not pass. I am concerned that if the vote had been closer, misunderstood instructions could have swayed the vote, and have the amendment pass by accident.

Yes they should have spent their efforts in looking at an efficient grandfathering clause instead of the other route - but it would have meant easy member increase with all the existing maladay (and other) owners. Just a ploy really for Thor to piggy back on the underlying strength this club really has - it has just been sleeping for a bit I think.

As it stands now - there is a clause that allows people who own sob's for home use or full time to attend Wbcci events in them...... I think everyone missed that.

Fozzies:

If you start searching the forum for information on the motorhome issue you'll find enough reading to keep you up nights for a week or two! Essentially the vote addressed whether or not non-Airstream motorhomes - or those motorhomes manufactured by others at a facility other than the Airstream plant at Jackson Center, Ohio, should be allowed into the WBCCI. Airstream no longer manufactures motorhomes. It did not affect the status of the existing generation of Airstream motorhomes - other than quite possibly serving to increase their value! Beyond that condensed summary, do the search for all of the emotion involved in the issue. Be forewarned that a clear majority of the Airforum members, in all likelihood, voted "Nay" on the issue. There's a definite love herein for everything Airstream.
