Uh oh....sounds like trouble is brewing for the NEU. We are guilty as charged. Accordingly to our unit bylaws, you must be present at biz mtg to vote OR the president can mandate a mailed ballot in lieu of the biz mtg voting.

Since you have such a good relationship with Jody, perhaps you could ask her to clear up the vote allocation methods. There were several methods in this post: http://www.airforums.com/forums/327304-post5.html

What method, if any is the proper one?

Bill

To help out in finding the required information on MAL's look under Article VI
Qualifications of members SEC 3 for members at large. On moving International dues from one unit to another it is Article IV Membership and Membership Privilages after Section 11 Under policy where in effect it states you cannot do it. These are articles of the blue book.
At the SNU we have had members attend rally's in other units, and have members that are members of more than one unit. As I have said on more than one occasion that my email is open to all members and all input is appreciated. Because some do not like the democratic process. They can feel free to look at other units. As President of SNU at least for this year I can assure you that no one person is going to force the rest of the unit to follow their lead. SNU will remain a unit that cusses and discusses the issues and votes with the rule being the majority wins. Our monthly newsletter brings to the forefront all issues presented at the meetings/rallies. It is then up to the individual member to voice his or her opinion. How they choose to do this is up to them.

Yes, correct, you can however move from one unit to asnother OR you can move from MAL to a Regular member no problem. You simply pay the new unit's dues. You can move from one unit to another de facto. neither the WBCCI, not the unit have the responsability for transfering th eunit dues from one unit to another.
In out case that was not a problem. We did not desire any refund from the SNU and would not expect one. and the WDCU's dues are only a buck so that is a win-win situation.

Also in all of this there is no thing that I can see yey which limit's any Regular member's ability to vote in his/her unit.

I say, Give the WDCU your dollar.

I have read that if you have more than one Airstream you need a complete new membership for numbers on the other Airstream. Could a member not hold two separate memberships as well then, joining a different unit anytime as any new member would be joining. This side steps any needing to transfer funds but is expensive.

Hmmm do those people get a vote with every Airstream too, or just have to pay that amount to get their numbers? Or have I gotten it all confused? Which I likely do.

Carol,

I think that is only if you want different number for each trailer. You could put the same number on multiple trailers, anyone looking the numbers up in the directory would identify you.

Thanks Bill. I think I remember now that some wanted to keep the original numbers of their vintage or perhaps because of ghosting or requests. I didn't know that you could use the same numbers on all. Is that what most of the owners with multiples do is number them the same?

Oh and just to add about MAL's I signed up November 1st this year online to become a MAL leaving my local unit after three years membership. But I switched after only a week to WDCU to protect my voting privileges. Star Grover of membership took care of the necessary paperwork and I even received a refund from WBCCI for the difference in unit membership vs MAL (penalty non unit?) fee beyond the International dues amount.

I would say there definitely are reasons that members may chose not to leave WBCCI but leave the local unit instead. I wonder how many MALs were formerly unit members as to the percentage of MALs signing up as such as new members. All units are not run alike. Some have some extraordinary organization and activity and there are others that membership is waning, luncheons out number rallies, events are cancelled, officer positions are not filled, calendars have many TBA listings, the same officers are recycled, and that just may be the outward appearance that there may be deeper problems within.

Carol,

Good question about the source of MALs. The absolute number has been growing and I also wonder why, are they new members who don't know how or what unit to choose or are the unit members who choose, for whatever reason, to be MAL?

You are right about the personality of the units, there are about 147 units with 147 personalities and a member must find the right unit to fit them.

And I just thought to add that we have had two forum rallies here in the same area and this year we expect that we will need a much larger site as we have grown in numbers.

I think two things should be done in WBCCI and that is to make certain that the mebership chairman is doing a proactive job and that unrenewed memberships are followed up with an inquiry and used to help shore up any trends for slipsliding away.

A study on MAL's would be very informative and a good touch stone for the WBCCI to realize that these members pay more International dues, have the committment to belong to the club and generally are met with an attitude that they are somehow derelict in duties and should rightly conduct themselves and be considered as a lesser yet still prevail against such reception. Anyway kudos to my MAL friends out there and hoping to see your right to vote instituted.

Why MAL?

If you join on line there is MAL or a list of Units. We didnt know anything about Units or the people in them so MAL was the more comfortable choice.

When we decided to join a Unit and made that known on this forum. Several folks especially Bill invited us to camp with their Units so we could see if we were interested. Very nice and warm invitations from happy WBCCI Unit members. The members are the best feature of the club and its strongest selling point.

If we had not found this forum I doubt we would have ever joined a Unit Nor met the friends we have here and in the WBCCI.

Many people are either too shy or too uncomfortable walking cold into a group to ever seek out a Unit.

It takes people like Bill who are willing to approach strangers and invite them in to their Units. Unfortunately that method can only reach so many folks.

O.K. I've blathered on too long already.

Bill
My experience has shown me that the majority of the MALs we have in the club have chosen to join that way.
There are certainly some unit members who become MALs but there are just as many or more(in my experience) that start in the club as MALs and then end up joining a unit.
