Looking for WBCCI #822

I'm trying to research the history of a vintage trailer I recently acquired and thought I would see if anyone has an old membership directory to help with my research. There are very, very faint numbers on the trailer that look like "822". I've reached a dead end with directories going back to 2002 (I've only been a member since 2002) and that number is currently not assigned to anyone. Does anyone have any information on this number? I heard from someone that the 3-digit numbers were only assigned to Region and International officers.

True, the club today reserves 3-digit numbers for International officers. You'll also find that some former Airstream employees and caravan leaders have 2 or 3-digit numbers. But it was not the case in the late 1950s, so your unit might have been owned by a mere mortal.

I few older WBCCI Directories, the oldest being 1981. In that dirsctory #822 belonged to Lorraine Dureau of Bayshore, NY. She was a member of the Metropolitan New York WBCCI Unit in Region 2. She was no longer listed in my next Directory, which is 1989. Checking my other scattered Directories, I can find no evidence that #822 has been used since 1989, but I am missing several years.

Based upon all of this I could guess that a 1954 Safari (can I assume that this is the recently acquired trailer?) could have been the Durea's trailer and that by 1981, Mr. Durea (if there ever was one) may have passed away and by 1989 Lorraine had also either passed away or dropped out of the club for other reasons.

I don't have the 2005 Directory handy, but the Metropolitan New York Unit is still present in the 2004 Directory. You may try contacting someone from that unit to see if they have more information. Good Luck.

That is a correct assumption! Thanks for the additional information.

I have an old directory from the late 50's - but I'm out of town at the moment and won't be back for a couple more weeks - so I try to remember to look it up, if I forget, please remind me

Also, the WBCCI office in Jackson Center has every directory ever published that you can use for research
