It matters not how long you've been around, it matters only that you have sense to get off a sinking ship that doesn't want to pump out the water from the hull. To me it seems like throwing good money after bad, but again, that is just my opinion.
Oh that makes me sad. What you say may be (is) true but how is anything going to change if nobody wants to stay and bail water. It seems to me it would be much better and cheaper to patch this ship and get it to port and rebuild it than to start all over from scratch. With WBCCI, despite all the problems, there is a foundation. There is some solid structure and identity. There is some history. I for one will keep bailing away even if it sometimes seems like I am taking one teaspoon of water out and a bucket full takes it's place. For one, I believe in the organization. For another, I believe change WILL happen even though it may be a while yet. As for my AS experience - I am a third generation WBCCI member. My family has been WBCCI members since the organization was founded in 1955. I personally have been advocating for change on various issues for the last 10 years through letters, in direct conversations, and other means. I am sure not ready to quit trying. I also aplaud all those people out there who joined WBCCI but don't yet have a long tenure with the club. They bring new ideas, new perspectives, and new enthusiasm. Their passion is not related to a time frame. We should encourage them to learn about the clubs past, help them understand how it works and why things are as they are. With a little knowledge and understanding and lots of enthusiasm these people along with those of us that have been around a while, have an opportunity to revitalize this club in a real and lasting way.

I am with denellen on this subject.

The point is the club needs increased visibility to ensure its continuence. The club needs the Airstream name in its name to promote both the product, which is also required to ensure the continuence of the club, and the club. Nobody knows who Wally was until after they get an Airstream. History has evolved, the club needs to, too. Unless, of course, you think history was intelligently designed......YIKES!

Diane, I agree with what you say and am happy that you will continue to fight the good fight. Some here want more of us to jump in as dues paying members and from reading your post, being a 3rd gen WBCCI member, without meaning any disrespect, it seems like a short term losing battle. Sure as the old group passes on whoever is younger may take up the leadership roles, however...... it may be almost too late.

The problem as I see it is that there is a short-term problem where folks that want the change are asking for it. The problem is that they (current leadership) may tick off enough of the younger crowd that there may not be much of a long-term club to be a part of if membership continues to be at historic low levels and thus my splinter unit type organization thoughts. I could be just as wrong as I am right, however, there isn't a whole lot out there for folks to believe will resurrect the phoenix from the ashes, particularly after that WBCCI leader wrote that state of affairs where it was suggested that the International may go away.

Don't misunderstand me, I have no joy or vested interest in seeing the club go away totally, as a matter of fact if WBCCI were more like the VAC folks, it would more of what is expected. Heck, the folks that are now in the leadership positions use to do all the fun stuff, but it's become stale. Nothing a name change will fix either, but hey, that's just my opinion.

So although I agree and have a deep level of respect for you and most of the WBCCI folks out there, there seems to be a fair number of the membership and leadership in total denial of what is a real possible future for the club. Some on this thread have said they'll be there to the end, and they may find that end happening sooner than later if folks aren't careful.

I do respect very much your thoughts on the subject as I do most of what folks say when it comes to WBCCI.

In the end I hope it all works out.

Silvertwinkie: Having read over the past three years some of your record-setting 4,706 posts, many of which concern the innumerable shortcomings of the WBCCI, I have come to see you as a man of very firm convictions who acts decisively upon those convictions. I, for one, can only applaud you for not renewing your free WBCCI membership two years ago. I believe it was the best possible response from you. And I hope that, for the foreseeable future, you continue that best response which will, by repetitious example, illuminate the folly of my contrary ways. Respectfully,

Appreciate your thoughts. No disrespect or misunderstanding as far as I am concerned. I just hope more of the younger generation won't get turned off and will decide to go around, through, over, or under those obstacles in the way and make change possible.

As far as the end being in sight. I have to see the club over the cliff before I believe that. Our Unit has been there, dangling on the cliff by a few fingernails. We brought it back from the brink (with no help from anyone except ourselves) and now it is thriving. Our membership was down to 3 active and a few inactive members. Now we have almost 30. One year there was only one rig at most of the "rallies". The next year there were 2 or maybe even 4. This year we were up to 8 and 9. If we can do it, I believe the organization as a whole can. Got to look at the glass half full, listen to your members and potential members, and get back to the original ideas of the club.

Glad you agree. Others seem to be on the same page lately. Good, bad or ugly, it's not for me to decide. Membership numbers will have the final say as the years go by.

All my best Fred.
