Just my opinion, Dan
This was my thought, but I smacked my own fingers earlier to keep from suggesting sanctions against Turner if he misrepresented the origin of and support for this Motion. However, now that you have made the suggestion, I will agree with it.

Had one email back from a Region 4 Unit President, regarding the representations made about this Motion, who stated "I'm looking into this.."

Oh, groan. Too many folks are slap-happy with grievances. Just show that the guy was "creating facts" and allow the IP to hold up action on appointing a committee, as per the motion.

"Creating Facts'
As soon as I read that I thought of the movie "Soylent Green" and looked up some of the quotes from it.
Soylent Green (1973) - Memorable quotes.
There are some good ones but none as good as "Creating Facts".

I am willing to wait till some more responses come back or the region 4 prez offers an explanation before reaching any conclusions.
However I am curious to know if he has a motorhome. Anyone know?

This is a reply I got from one of the Region #4 unit Presidents. Read it closely and see if you think they have any idea of when, where or how this vote was taken. We are now dealing with "Creative Facts" and "Vague Recollection"

Howard...

As I remember, this issue came up a while ago and our unit voted unanimously in favor of it. We still fully support this motion

Just a thought.

If we are now considering allowing SOB RVs into the Club why not allow SOBs to be elected to office. I know one SOB from Long Island that would love to run.

He may have been referring to the first time around several years ago. If there was a vote at the spring business meeting I think his recollection would be better. Can we have chart of responses from the region 4 units? And can you ask the unit officer to report as to the minutes of the vote?

I wouldn't make that much of it. We use the internet for nearly all reservations and have found that at least half of the reservers check email once a week, at best. (The other half can't understand why we don't check email more than several times a day.)

Region 4 may not be that into internet. The list of units only shows 3 as even having a web site on WBCCI.org.

That's not so bad. Take a look at region 6. Then you will know why I wanted that quote you found for me

Hmmm, wow region 6 has only 1 web site out of 11 units! And this is after we have an electronic communication chair and unit web design templates and help available and a promotional PR chair with budgets!

So far at least 4 different attempts, via e mail, have been made to contact the Presidents of the Region #4 units that have e mail addresses. The lack of response goes way beyond coincidence. Clearly the troops have rallied around Turner in their silence but not willing to go so far as to make a statement supporting that silence that later can not be supported.

10 of the 14 units Presidents have e mail address. Two of them list their address as Dade City Fl. the home stomping grounds for the "Leadership".

Not only is there only one website, but the region does not have one either

This is what I received back from the sole Unit President out of Region 4 who has responded. I have removed identifying information.

"Hello,

Here is what I found out. If I undertsand it correctly... A vote was taken at the region ralley. I was not in attendence. (I still work full time) So the ------ Unit vice voted yes, as acting person, however, I and many of the ------ Unit are dead set against this....

My personal opinion is, if they dont want to buy an Airstream, then you dont join the club. I personally dont want to be part of Bastardizing this club with X-brand campers motorhomes or tents. There are other clubs they can join."

So, there may be something to Turner's statements, but was this actually representative of Region 4 and why not on the agenda for something which was clearly not a last-minute issue? In the context of all this other stuff, it just feels a little slick. Those not at the Unit 4 Region rally were not able to cast votes on this matter, apparently, and perhaps also were not aware this matter was coming up for a vote.

We suggested at our May business meeting that we have an agenda prior to each business meeting and also that there be a means of remote voting on substantive issues if you are not able to be present at the business meeting. We were told then that there had been an edict from above to implement electronic voting, but not when that was to begin. We feel that emailed agendas prior to meetings, and info on issues should be easy enough to do, also that those who don't have email (or don't wish to publicize their address), can do the snail mail thing.

Maggie

So are we to assume this so called 13 of 14 units voting was not a result of individual units voting through their membership but rather a vote cast by those attending a Regional Rally with no prior input from the units membership.

There used to be a common tactic used in voting in the early days of Unions. Call for a meeting of the membership, of 1,000 members, to be held in the Union hall that seated 100 people for 8 o'clock and have your friends show up at 7:30.

The IBT has advanced this to new heights. Hold a meeting the day after the majority has gone home. This is a much better method as there is no angry crowd waiting outside with baseball bats.

region 4 letter

Howie,

I just received a copy of what appears to be your letter to region 4. It was forwarded to all members of The Tennessee Cumberland Plateau Campground (TCPC) with out comment.
The member who sent it is listed with a Fla address so I don't know if they are part of region 4 also.

Rick

There are 2 officers of Region #4 that have Fl. addresses. Please PM me that letter so I can determine it's source.

Just checked the FMCA (Family Motorcoach Assoc) Membersip directory, and there are 7 families named "Turner" but no "John Turner" from Michigan.
